Lettuce company Taylor Farms has announced it is removing its iceberg lettuce off the shelves.

CBS News had the full scoop on Taylor Farm’s decision to pull their lettuce off the shelves:

Taylor Farms on Friday said it is “voluntarily removing” iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico after it was linked to one of the largest outbreaks of cyclosporiasis in the U.S. in recent years.

“While the FDA traceback is indicating a specific independent farm, which represents less than 1% of the U.S.’s iceberg lettuce supply, as the potential source of the outbreak, we have removed all iceberg lettuce from the region indefinitely,” the company said in a statement.

The Food and Drug Administration said in a statement Friday night that its traceback investigation identified a single supplier, Taylor Farms de Mexico, and that consumers should avoid eating shredded iceberg lettuce from Mexico at Taco Bells in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia while its investigation continues.

“Taylor Farms also informed FDA that they would initiate a recall. More information will be provided as it becomes available,” the FDA said.

Taylor Farms said none of its branded salads or kits contain iceberg lettuce or are associated with this outbreak.

CBS reports:

In a statement Taco Bell has announced it has removed all Taylor Farms lettuce from its food:

As of July 17, Taco Bell has completed removal of affected Taylor Farms lettuce from our restaurants. Based on ongoing conversations with public health officials, and out of an abundance of caution, Taco Bell worked swiftly to voluntarily remove the product from restaurants and the affected ingredient has been removed from our supply chain nationwide. We took this action to ensure our guests can enjoy their Taco Bell favorites safely.

We believe public health is a shared responsibility among restaurants, their suppliers, and authorities, and we are proud to have consistently acted quickly and proactively to protect our guests. Taco Bell has taken precautionary action, and we encourage all relevant restaurants, retailers, and foodservice operators to do the same.

The CDC has reported there have been over 6,700 confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis across 34 states.
