As some leftist leaders across the country used the nation’s 250th anniversary as yet another excuse to bash its history, President Donald Trump held a staunchly patriotic event to mark the occasion.
One particularly poignant moment came when he invited 11 Gold Star families to join him for a special presentation, as Fox News reported:
President Donald Trump honored 11 Gold Star families during his “Salute to America” speech Saturday night, paying tribute to the relatives of U.S. service members who died in military service.
Gold Star families are the surviving relatives of military personnel who died while serving the United States.
ADVERTISEMENT“As we celebrate America’s unmatched achievements and unlimited potential, we never forget that none of this would have been possible without those who gave everything so that we could reach this 250th year of freedom,” Trump said during his remarks on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
The fireworks show that followed also captured significant attention:

Although he made a reference to the politically motivated charges he has faced since entering public office, the president quickly refocused his attention on celebrating the nation’s unparalleled founding principles.
According to The Hill:
The remarks came while the president talked about the Constitution, “the most righteous political document ever conceived,” he said.
ADVERTISEMENT“After 250 years, unlike so many others in the world, in this country we have freedom of speech, freedom of religion, equal justice under the law — although I wasn’t treated that well, but we won’t get into that,” he said. “But we won’t get into that. And the right to keep and bear arms. And for the almost six years that I was president, I guarded very, very powerfully your Second Amendment.”
