What an awesome moment!

The remarks were late due to the weather, but President Trump was adamant that they were happening tonight — come hell or high water!

USA Today provided some background:

As President Donald Trump took the stage on the National Mall on Saturday to mark the nation’s 250th birthday, the crowd broke into chants of “USA, USA, USA,” along with shrieks and cheers.

Trump’s speech and what he has described as a record-breaking fireworks show got underway hours after severe thunderstorms wreaked havoc on Fourth of July celebrations in the Eastern United States.

From Washington, DC, to Boston, Independence Day events are back on after brief delays due to inclement weather as the country marks its 250th anniversary. Trump’s “Salute to America” event was postponed until 11 p.m. due to “approaching severe weather.” In New York, organizers opted to launch fireworks early to beat weather concerns.

Festivities in Western and Central states, meanwhile, are chugging along as planned, with star-studded concert lineups taking the stage in Nashville and Los Angeles.

“Storms bring luck to whatever the occasion,” Trump said in a Truth Social post. “They also make events a little bit more exciting! We will wait it out, I don’t care if it’s 2:00 O’Clock in the morning, or in one hour from now. Looks like it is going to pass, they always do. I will be there no matter what, but the “what” usually turns out to be a good thing.”

Trump arrived on the Mall in Washington with family members shortly after 10 p.m.

Earlier, festivities had been hampered by a record-setting heat wave with triple-digit temperatures in parts of the country, including with heat advisories and warnings. The Independence Day parade in the Washington, D.C., was canceled due to heat. Parades, fireworks shows and other events were axed or delayed in several states on Friday and Saturday. Still, plenty of people have been braving the weather and uncertainty, turning out for celebrations in major sweltering cities.

Shortly after beginning his speech, President Trump thanked all the Americans — and there are a lot of them! — who dug deep and waited through the delays.

“If you think that was easy, IT WASN’T. I said, ‘if we have to speak in front of ONE PERSON at 4 o’clock in the morning, I’M GOING TO BE HERE.’

There’s NO WAY we can be deterred!”

President Trump promised that tonight’s speech is going to be incredibly long, so stay tuned!

After his speech concludes, a gigantic, record-breaking fireworks show is planned.
