The Lone Star State’s reputation for proudly being itself stands in stark contrast to the ongoing expressions of self-loathing from US Senate candidate James Talarico over his own identity.
As the general election gets underway, several comments from his past have come back to light, including when he lamented being a “boring, straight, cis White man,” but another unearthed clip turns his anti-White rhetoric up a notch by injecting it into religion.
Breitbart provided this report:
Speaking on the September 2024 podcast titled “Holy Conversation: Faith and Politics,” Talarico said too many white churches focus on the afterlife instead of on “freeing the oppressed and healing the sick and feeding the hungry.”
ADVERTISEMENT“Too many white churches are focused on the afterlife and not really much on this life,” Talarico said. “In my opinion, a lot of white churches don’t resemble the Jesus we meet in the Gospels of being out in the world, of freeing the oppressed and healing the sick and feeding the hungry.”
Talarico also praised black churches, saying they have a better understanding of what it means to follow Jesus than many white churches.
“And in the black churches that I’ve been in, they, I think because of their position in this country historically and currently, have a much deeper and more accurate understanding of what it means to follow Jesus in the 21st century,” Talarico continued. “So I’m glad that we are learning from black churches. I know my church has up in North Austin, and it sounds like this church is.”
Of course, his anecdotal observations might have more to do with the White churches he’s been associated with than any inherent differences between the races.
Talarico, who has made his supposed Christian faith a pillar of his campaign, has attracted significant criticism over the latest in a string of damning audio clips:
The black churches I've been in are teaching secular liberalism from the pulpit. Preaching secular liberalism isn't consistent with God's word.

This man has absolutely perfected the art of being able to talk about so much but saying absolutely nothing.
He uses Christianity to twist it into his perverted vision & then tries to sell it to the people as the truth. 👿 🇺🇸— FTL (@Baloo1776) June 27, 2026
That simply is not the reality we see every single damn day! This guy is no Christian. He says things no follower of Jesus would ever mutter.

His denomination (PCUSA) is experiencing a steady annual decline, dropping roughly 46,000 to 53,000 members each year. Pretty sure that's because of the emphasis on a woke gospel, not the Pearly Gates.

Fox News recently highlighted another Christianity-related gem from Talarico’s past:
In a recently resurfaced episode of the “Activist Theology Podcast,” James Talarico, a Democratic state lawmaker now running for the Senate, confided that “I always think of myself as a Christian who hates Christianity.”
He went on to say, “I always get drawn back into it because nowhere else, in no other political philosophy and no other economic theory do I find anything nearly as truly radical or revolutionary as the teachings of that barefoot Rabbi.” Moments later, he told the podcast hosts that he believed the teachings of Christ are similar to “the teachings of the Buddha and other mystical traditions.”
Democrats are hopeful that Talarico will flip one of Texas’ Senate seats blue for the first time in decades, which would be devastating for the GOP’s odds of retaining its upper chamber majority. He is running against Republican Ken Paxton, who currently serves as Texas attorney general.
