A peace resolution that was already on shaky ground became even more tenuous in the wake of Iran’s latest provocation in the region.
As The Hill reported, President Donald Trump took the opportunity to issue another clear warning to the Iranian regime:
President Trump on Friday said Iran carried out an attack on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a “foolish violation” of a ceasefire, signed last week, that was meant to ensure safe passage through the waterway and kick off negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump did not address ending negotiations with Iran.
ADVERTISEMENTTrump said the U.S. shot down three out of four one-way attack drones that were launched by the Islamic Republic. He said one hit the upper deck of a cargo-carrying ship. The British military on Thursday said a vessel was hit by a projectile off the coast of Oman, following the passage of several tankers that used a route backed by the United Nations.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi issued a statement on Friday emphasizing Iran’s control of the strait, saying safety cannot be guaranteed for ships that transit the waterway without consultation with Tehran.
“Safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, with ambiguous arrangements, parallel routes, or decision-making outside of Iran’s considerations as the coastal state, cannot be guaranteed,” he posted on the social platform X.
The president’s remarks on the matter soon drew considerable social media engagement:
The President’s patience will run out sooner . If it weren’t for mid term elections looming, the IRGC would’ve been completely eliminated.

No offense to the Iranian people but it's time to return Iran to the stone age imo! We tried nice, tactical, negotiated, etc. but it isn't working. Time to reduce their infrastructure to ruins and napalm any boat bigger than a canoe.

Bomb the shit out of the mullahs. Give them their 69 virgins or goats, send them in their way and solve the real problem.

Here’s some additional coverage, via Politico:
The U.S. and Iran exited the first round of negotiations earlier this week having made “encouraging progress,” according to Qatari and Pakistani mediators. However, continued Israeli strikes on Hezbollah forces in Lebanon have strained negotiations, with Iran insisting that the fighting must end on all fronts to ensure a peace deal.
One of the largest tasks ahead of the negotiations will be to find a permanent solution on the fate of Iran’s nuclear program. Vice President JD Vance said earlier this week that the U.S. remains adamant that Iran does not build a nuclear weapon, and promised the country would “fundamentally transform” its relationship with Iran if that becomes the case.
