There have been more than a few hiccups along the way as Iranian and external forces have threatened the delicate negotiations President Donald Trump has attempted to conduct in recent months.
But with a deal in place and talks continuing, Vice President J.D. Vance delivered a welcome dose of optimism with his latest update early Monday.
As The Hill reported:
“Yesterday was a very, very good day. We made a lot of good progress. We did exactly what we wanted to do,” Vance said Monday.
ADVERTISEMENTVance said “a very good foundation” was laid for a successful, final deal.
The vice president referred to four points accomplished during the talks, including the establishment of mechanisms to demine the Strait of Hormuz and for deconfliction for the regional ceasefire, as well as the process for the technical negotiations that will follow.
Vance also announced that Tehran has agreed to permit the International Atomic Energy Agency back into the country, calling it “a major milestone for the American people.”
The talks in Switzerland fueled some social media discussion over the weekend:

And the New York Post added these details to the vice president’s most recent remarks:
Vance’s comments Monday followed a series of blistering statements from Trump Sunday, including a threat to seize the Strait of Hormuz and “blow the s–t out of” Iran.
The VP confirmed Monday that the comments by the president had caused the Iranians to “threaten to walk out, or at least there were social media threats that they would walk out, but we were negotiating well past one in the morning yesterday, so they didn’t walk out, and their technical team is still here.”
ADVERTISEMENTVance ultimately shrugged off the comments, telling reporters: “What we told the Iranians yesterday is, ‘When you guys engage in what us millennials might call trash talk, you can’t expect the president of the United States not to respond and not to correct the record,’ so when they say things that aren’t true, the president is going to respond to it, I’m going to respond to it, Americans are going to respond to it.
