Vandals Mark “8647” On National Mall’s Lawn

The threats against President Trump continue.

The U.S. Park Police are currently investigating vandalism that occurred on the National Mall’s lawn.

According to the U.S. Park Police, vandals marked the numbers “8647” on the grass near the National Mall.

The coded message “8647” has become popularized among far-leftists and can be decoded as “86” to get rid of, and 47 is a reference to Trump, who is the 47th President.

CBS News reported further details on the disturbing coded message on the National Mall’s lawn:

Markings appeared on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Thursday that seem to depict the numbers “86 47,” according to photos taken from the top of the Washington Monument.

A photographer for the Reuters news outlet saw the apparent markings just before federal authorities arrived to look into the incident, according to the wire service. Photos taken by the Reuters photographer show the faint tracings of “86 47” in the grass with the World War II Memorial in the background.

The “8” appears most prominently, while the “6” and “7” can be seen less clearly. The number “4” is the least visible in the photos. It was not immediately clear how the markings were made or who made them.

The U.S. Park Police said, “At approximately 11:30 a.m., U.S. Park Police responded to a report of vandalism of the west lawn of the Washington Monument. The numbers ‘8647’ were marked in the grass. The cause of the discoloration has not yet been determined. Grass samples have been collected for testing. The investigation is ongoing.”

A spokesperson for the Interior Department said, “The deranged vandalism on our National Mall will not be tolerated. Any threat against the President is taken very seriously by the Department, and our U.S. Park Police will investigate this incident and hold those responsible accountable.”

Former FBI Director James Comey was previously charged for making a 8647 post on his Instagram, per NPR:

Former FBI Director James Comey was charged this week over a year-old social media post of a seashell formation that the Justice Department alleges constituted a threat to President Trump’s life.

A grand jury returned an indictment on Tuesday saying that Comey “did knowingly and willfully make a threat to take the life of, and to inflict bodily harm upon, the President of the United States” when he posted a picture of seashells in the sand on a North Carolina beach in May 2025.

The seashells were arranged — it’s not clear by whom — to form the numbers “8647.” Eighty-six is a slang term widely interpreted as meaning “get rid of,” while Trump is the 47th (and 45th) president.

“I’m still innocent, I’m still not afraid, and I still believe in the independent federal judiciary, so let’s go,” Comey said in a Substack video response to the indictment, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years.

Comey has been an outspoken critic of Trump since the president fired him in 2017, four years into his 10-year term, as he was overseeing an investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

But Comey said last year that he interpreted the shell formation as a purely political message, writing, “I didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence.” He quickly took the post down after backlash from Republicans and Trump family members. But that didn’t stop administration officials from opening an investigation.
