White House Responds To ‘Baseless’ Lawsuit Aimed At Preventing UFC Fight On South Lawn

President Donald Trump’s critics have relied heavily on lawsuits in an attempt to stop his MAGA agenda in its tracks, and a few activist judges here and there have complied.

Now, with plans for a major celebration to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, a new federal lawsuit aims to secure a last-minute cancellation notice for one of Freedom 250’s most highly anticipated events: a UFC fight on the White House’s South Lawn.

Fox News provided some details about the suit:

The lawsuit argues UFC Freedom 250 is really a private, for-profit sporting event involving the UFC, broadcasters, sponsors and advertisers rather than a legitimate government-run celebration.

The complaint alleges the event could financially benefit President Trump and several of his associates, including UFC CEO Dana White and Paramount-Skydance CEO David Ellison.

It also points to Trump’s reported purchase of up to $50,000 worth of stock in TKO Group Holdings, the publicly traded parent company of the UFC.

Court filings argue that the event has less to do with commemorating American independence and more with promoting the UFC brand and celebrating Trump’s 80th birthday.

Social media users have been actively sharing their thoughts about this late-stage lawsuit:

Unsurprisingly, the White House says the lawsuit, filed by two Virginia residents against the National Parks Service and Department of the Interior, got it all wrong.

Here’s what the administration had to say about the requested injunction, per CBS News:

An administration official called the lawsuit “an obstructionist, baseless, and dilatory” attempt to prevent Mr. Trump from “from hosting what will undoubtedly go down as one of the most historic sporting events in our nation’s history during our semiquincentennial celebration.”

“This iconic event is no different than the various other White House-hosted events on the South Lawn and properly permitted events on the Ellipse and National Mall throughout the year,” the official said.
