FACT-CHECK: Did TPUSA Use Deepfake Clip of Charlie Kirk Naming Erika As His Successor?

If you’ve been on social media this weekend, you might have seen a highly-controversial Turning Point USA clip going around.

The clip is a spliced-together video of the late and great Charlie Kirk saying that he would want Erika Kirk to lead the organization if anything happened to him.

It originally aired during Erika Kirk’s speech at TPUSA’s Women’s Leadership Summit on Friday.

“I appoint my wife to run Turning Point USA if something happens to me,” Charlie says in the video, “Erika would do a great job.”

I’ll post the clip here for you to watch yourself, and then we’ll dive into all the drama surrounding it:

Almost as soon as that clip was posted on X, it got community-noted by users debunking its authenticity.

Before we get into it, I have to say that I’m not trying to convince you of anything with regards to Turning Point USA or Erika Kirk.

My job is simply to look into this clip and the allegations about it in order to report on what’s true, and what’s not.

So, without taking sides, let’s investigate the facts…

First of all, Turning Point USA implied that this clip was private footage from a donor retreat that Charlie Kirk spoke at in Aspen, CO in August 2025 — just weeks before he was assassinated.

They have cited these private remarks multiple times as a big factor for why Erika Kirk was chosen to lead Turning Point USA after her husband’s death.

But, until yesterday, the (alleged) footage was never released.

Turning Point CEO Erika Kirk revealed for the first time closely guarded video footage of her slain husband Charlie Kirk telling donors he would appoint her as CEO of his organization if anything should ever happen to him.

The footage aired as part of an introduction video for Erika Kirk, 37, as she took the stage to open the Turning Point Women’s Leadership Summit.

The introduction footage highlights Erika’s marriage to Charlie and their time together before he was assassinated at an outdoor college speaking event on September 12, 2025.

The footage concluded with Kirk’s daughter introducing her mother to the stage.

‘It’s incredible. I love how she did this, she released this on her terms not theirs. It was perfect,’ a Turning Point insider told the Daily Mail.

After Kirk’s death, the Turning Point USA board voted Erika to take his place as CEO, citing Charlie’s expressed wishes.

Kirk was filmed speaking about the topic at an August 2025 event for donors in Aspen, Colorado. When one donor asked Krik what would happen to his juggernaught conservative youth organizing movement should something happen to him, he replied that he would appoint Erika to replace him.

Three weeks after the Aspen event, a worst nightmare was realized: Kirk, 31, was shot and killed by an alleged assassin while speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10.

Erika has referred to the video in public interviews, but footage of of Kirk’s remarks has been kept private by the organization.

However, there’s a big problem…

Social media sleuths found out that the clip is not from the 2025 Aspen event.

Rather, it appears to have been taken from Charlie Kirk’s opening remarks during a speech at ActCon in 2023.

This X user pointed out that the backdrop from the Aspen event was totally different:

It’s a scummy thing to try to play off public remarks from years ago as “secret, never-before seen footage” taken shortly before Kirk’s tragic assassination, isn’t it?

But, if that’s not bad enough, Charlie never even mentioned Erika during those 2023 remarks.

This is fueling speculation online that the audio used in that TPUSA video might not have even been real.

Candace Owens, who has been skeptical of the official Kirk assassination narrative, is leading the charge:

But, she isn’t the only one noticing how strange all this is.

Many X users suspect that TPUSA may have used an AI-generated, deepfake of Charlie Kirk in the video.

One social media user ran the video through AI analysis, and it appeared to confirm that there are clear signs of manipulation.

Turning Point USA just proved they’ll do anything to protect their narrative — even if it means releasing obvious AI-generated garbage.

Instead of dropping the original clip of Charlie supposedly saying “I appoint my wife to run Turning Point USA if something happens to me,” they released a heavily edited, spliced, and music-backed video. The base footage they used isn’t even from the Aspen donor summit where this was allegedly said. It’s pulled straight from Charlie’s public ActCon 2023 speech — you can literally see the “Building the Machine” sign on the podium. In that entire speech, Charlie never once mentions appointing Erika as CEO.

People then ran the video through Neat Video’s Y-frequency analysis and it lit up with grey spatial artifacts across the board — clear signs of AI manipulation. This wasn’t a debunk. This was an admission that the clip is fake.

TPUSA didn’t just fail to prove the audio was real. They exposed themselves.

Amid all the controversy, some people are defending TPUSA by claiming that they watched Charlie Kirk appoint Erika Kirk as his successor live.

My response to that is: if the footage is real, why not just release it in its entirety and put this to rest?

So far, there has been no official response from Turning Point USA about the video’s authenticity.

If that changes and they put out the complete, unedited footage, then I think that would suffice as proof that Charlie Kirk really appointed Erika to succeed him.

But, as it stands, it seems very likely that the video isn’t real. Or, at the very least, that it is highly misleading.

So now, the question is: why lie about something like this? Who benefits from such a thing?
