Democrats Are Calling For DNC Chair’s Ouster Over Botched Election Report: ‘The Whole Thing Is Odd

With a rapidly deteriorating Joe Biden forced off the ticket only to be replaced by his vapid vice president, it’s hardly a surprise that the 2024 election was an overwhelming victory for President Donald Trump.

But many Democrats rightfully want to know what else went wrong behind the scenes — and they say the man who should’ve provided that information was asleep at the switch.

As The Hill reported, a long-delayed postmortem report of the 2024 election finally surfaced, but it wasn’t enough to quell the rising backlash against Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin, including from Rep. Marc Veasey (D-TX):

“There doesn’t seem to be a plan to turn things around and the clock is ticking,” Veasey told Semafor reporter Nicholas Wu. “November is literally around the corner … I believe it’s time for him to move on.”

Martin is facing growing backlash over his handling of the flawed and incomplete postmortem, which he released only after months of pressure from within his own party.

The DNC chair had promised earlier last year to publish the findings on former Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss to President Trump but later reversed course and declined to release them.

Martin noted that the independent report was not up to his standards when he made it public on Thursday but wanted to be transparent. He said keeping the findings under wraps “ended up creating an even bigger distraction” than the one he was trying to avoid ahead of the midterms.

Criticism of the report spilled over onto social media:

Axios also covered the backlash:

Rep. Sean Casten (D-Ill.) told Axios he “does not regret” his decision to back former Wisconsin Democratic Party chair Ben Wikler for the DNC chairmanship over Martin last year.

  • “I just think the whole thing is odd, saying we’re going to this thing and we’ll release it, and then you don’t release it and then you do release it, it doesn’t give much confidence,” Rep. Christian Menefee (D-Texas) told Axios.

  • Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.) said he is “concerned that the DNC appears to be in a state of almost terminal decline.”

  • Asked whether Martin should resign, Torres said it is “not my place, but … the status quo at the DNC should be cause for alarm for every Democrat in the country.”
