Two police officers in Syracuse, NY were shot and a third’s arm was injured this morning during a standoff with a suspect who opened fire at them.
At this time, it has not been confirmed exactly how the third officer was injured.
But reportedly, the suspect was wielding a machete and hurt a dog with it.

Officers were originally called to the scene amid reports of a man wielding a machete, possibly injuring a dog with it.
No update on the dog, unfortunately 😕
All three police officers were transported to the hospital, but they will be okay.

The officers were taken to nearby Upstate University Hospital, officials said at a news conference.

Syracuse Mayor Sharon Owens said the officers are in good spirits.
Police began getting calls to the Pioneer Homes area at about 6 a.m. today, including for a report of a person using a machete to injure a dog, the chief said. Pioneer Homes is a housing complex just south of Adams Street, across the I-81 viaduct from Upstate University Hospital.
Officers obtained a search warrant. When executing that warrant inside a residence, two officers were shot, Rusin said.
Officers fired shots back at the shooter, the chief said.
A third officer also has been injured but is in stable condition, Rusin said. The chief did not have details about how that officer was hurt.
After many hours, the suspect eventually surrendered to the police.

Syracuse Police Chief Mark Rusin said the “active threat” in the city has ended after a suspect was taken into custody.
Three officers were hurt on Saturday when responding to a report of a man menacing with a machete. Two of them were shot by the suspect, who barricaded himself inside a building.

A man has surrendered to police after shooting two officers and menacing people with a machete on Saturday morning.
There is no indication that there is still a public threat. But the scene is still in the middle of winding down.

At a briefing, Chief Mark Rusin said the two officers are out of the hospital. A third officer injured in his arm is still in the hospital. Police still don’t know what injured the third officer.
Around 3:15 p.m., a person police believe to be the suspect came out of the building. He is getting medical attention on the scene. An arraignment is expected tomorrow, Rusin said. The police department is working with Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick to decide the exact charges.
At this time, the suspect’s identity has not been released.
