WATCH: Secret Service Provides Update on Armed Suspect Sh*t Near White House

As we previously reported, the White House was placed on lockdown this afternoon after Secret Service shot an armed man nearby.

Now, the Secret Service has provided more details on what happened.

Secret Service Deputy Director Matt Quinn says that agents were forced to return fire after the suspect shot at them.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, is currently in the hospital.

Fox News reported:

The shooting happened near 15th Street and Independence Avenue, a little over a half mile from the White House and close to the Washington Monument.

Secret Service Uniformed Division officers engaged the individual after the person pulled a gun, a federal source told Fox News Digital.

The suspect was believed to be alive and taken to a hospital, the source said. The situation appeared to be quickly contained, with no immediate indication of a broader threat, they said.

One bystander, a juvenile, was also hit by the suspect and is now in the hospital. Thankfully, his injuries were not life-threatening.

During a media briefing, the Secret Service also revealed that the armed individual was identified shortly after Vice President JD Vance's motorcade drove by the area.

"They returned fire and engaged. That individual was hit, he was transported to the hospital."

"At least one, only one bystander was hit by the suspect. That individual, the juvenile, did not sustain any life-threatening injuries, but he's also receiving treatment at the hospital."

"I'll point out that not long before this shooting occurred, the Vice President's motorcade did transit through this area."

Scarily, these violent incidents only appear to be getting more and more frequent.
