If Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) weren’t already considering an exit from the Democratic Party, the response from one of its leaders to his call for civility might be enough to push him over the edge.
Specifically, Fetterman called out those within his party suffering from “TDS,” a common abbreviation of “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” going on to back President Donald Trump’s renewed call for a secure White House ballroom in the wake of Saturday’s shooting.
Fox News reported on the Democratic National Committee vice chair’s reaction:
“Almost every day now my US Senator comes on this site to attack his constituents and many people who worked hard to elect him. Suggesting that they have ‘derangement syndrome’ for opposing this administration. You’re a mess @JohnFetterman,” Malcolm Kenyatta asserted in a post on X.
ADVERTISEMENTFox News Digital reached out to Fetterman’s office on Monday.
Kenyatta, a Pennsylvania state representative, unsuccessfully ran in the 2022 Democratic U.S. Senate primary that Fetterman won.
Fetterman attended the Saturday night White House Correspondents Association dinner event where a suspected shooter was apprehended.
Kenyatta’s comments come on the heels of the latest speculation regarding Fetterman’s political future. Although his voting record is more consistently party-line than many of his Democratic colleagues, his willingness to reach across the aisle and provide occasional support for the Trump administration has made him persona non grata among the left’s anti-Trump hardliners.
Here are a couple of examples that pre-date Saturday’s shooting:
Sen. John Fetterman is a traitor to the Democratic party. Excellent news that he receives no support for re-election from Pennsylvania. He's also disheveled and a total slob. He's not been the same person since his stroke. He's completely unfit. Fetterman must leave office !

From the GOP perspective, many in the party have indicated that they’d welcome Fetterman despite concerns about his leftist views on many key issues:
Why aren't Democrats trying to run Fetterman outta their party, like they did Manchin and Synema…. I'll tell you why, they think he'll actually leave, and so do i

Here’s what Fetterman said that got Kenyatta so riled up, per The Hill:
Fetterman said the Washington Hilton, where Secret Service officers exchanged gunfire with a 31-year-old man armed with a shotgun and handgun, was not secure enough to host an event with the president, vice president and more than 2,000 guests.
