WATCH: After Insults ICE, DHS Secretary Mullins Unloads On The ‘Lying Scumbag’

Few organizations in modern American history have been more maligned by the left and mainstream media than Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

And the man at the helm of the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, wasn’t about to let a ranking Senate Democrat join that chorus of condemnation without adding his thoughts.

As Fox News reported, DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin appeared on the network for an interview, during which the topic turned to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who recently claimed that “nobody respects” ICE and Border Patrol “in this country”:

“It makes my ears red,” Mullin told Fox News’ Bill Melugin on “America’s Newsroom” on Thursday. “It takes a lot to get me upset, but, Chuck Schumer, no one respects you: The definition of a lying scumbag politician. That is you.

“You would be the definition if you Googled you right now. I mean, why don’t you just come out and be honest with the American people? He wants to have open borders.”

Schumer’s comments were insulting to officers and agents “out there protecting you,” Mullin added.

The report went on to note that, despite a three-month-plus shutdown and only being able to cover payroll until the first period of next month, Mullin pushed back directly against Schumer’s assertion that immigration enforcement is unpopular among the American people.

“The American people overwhelmingly supports deportation, deporting these illegal immigrants and enforcing our nation laws and closing our border.

“There’s not even the polling is like an 80% issue with the American people, but the Democrats are so afraid, so afraid of of their primary base that they are willing to hold the homeland hostage.”

The discussion came with lawmakers at an impasse over funding CBP and ICE, and the ongoing debate has spilled over onto social media:

Here’s the latest on where things stand in the House after a bill narrowly passed in the Senate early Thursday, per the Associated Press:

During the recess, [Senate Majority Leader John] Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson announced that they would pursue a two-track approach – pass the Senate bill that includes most of the department’s funding through regular order and use the party-line bill to pass ICE and CBP funding.

Weeks later, though, Johnson has still not said when the House will take up the Senate’s legislation that would fund the rest of the department. And it is unclear if members of his GOP conference will unite behind the narrowed budget bill as some House Republicans have argued, like Sen. Kennedy, that they should add other priorities to the legislation.

Johnson said this week that the sequencing of the two bills is important. House lawmakers don’t want to see the rest of the department funded without ICE and Border Patrol, he said.

But Thune warned after the Senate vote that other parts of the Homeland Security Department may run out of money before they are able to finish the winding budget process and fund those two agencies. He said he hopes the adoption of the budget resolution is a signal to the House that “we’re going to be following through.”

“We’ll see what they can do with it,” Thune said. “And if they can’t, I guess we will go to the next plan.”
