NEWS ALERT from @FBILosAngeles: 43 Mexican Mafia Gangsters Arrested on Indictments Alleging Racketeering, Drug Trafficking, Kidnapping, Assault, and Murder
Today, 25 members and associates of the Mexican Mafia prison gang were arrested on three federal indictments charging them with committing scores of crimes in Orange County, including kidnapping, extortion, trafficking fentanyl and methamphetamine, running illegal gambling businesses, and murdering a victim last year at a gang-controlled Anaheim motel.
The Mexican Mafia is also known as La Eme.
The gang is based out of the South California prison system and is a huge problem in the state.
The New York Post reported further:
Dubbed “Operation Gangsta’s Paradise,” agents aimed to disrupt operations of the group, also known as La Eme — a violent, prison-based “gang of gangs” said to control almost all Hispanic street gangs in California.
The arrests targeted alleged murders, drug dealers and racketeers taken in by FBI agents at residences in and around the city of Santa Ana.
ADVERTISEMENTThe California Post has had front-row seats to SoCal gang raids in recent weeks, witnessing the FBI take down the 18th Street “supergang” in March as well as a major identity theft bust in Hollywood.
“This morning, we executed operation “Gangsters Paradise. We’ve indicted forty members and associates of the Mexican Mafia, who is the most powerful, prolific gang that operates out of state prisons,” said L.A.’s top federal prosecutor, Bill Essayli.
“They control and operate all the Hispanic street gangs out in the neighborhoods,” he added.
Federal agents working with local police arrested 43 suspects in all, confiscated firearms and seized illegal drugs, conducting 30 raids mostly in Orange County.
Another ten indictments were for members of the Mexican Mafia already in state prison.
ABC 7 provided further coverage in this clip:
