If winning six Super Bowls as a head coach doesn’t make you a first ballot NFL Hall of Famer, I don’t know what does.
President Trump shares the same sentiment.
On Wednesday, the NFL Hall of Fame committee revealed that six-time Super Bowl champion head coach for the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick, would not be part of the Hall of Fame class that will be revealed in February.
In response to the shocking announcement, President Trump called for the NFL Hall of Fame committee’s decision to be overturned.
CBS provided further details on Trump’s comments:
After news broke Tuesday night that former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was snubbed in his first year as a candidate for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, reactions of shock and anger poured in from across the football world and beyond, including from President Trump.
CBS Sports confirmed Tuesday that Belichick — who won six Super Bowls as head coach of the Patriots, and two more as defensive coordinator of the New York Giants — will not be a first ballot Hall of Fame selection when the class is revealed to the public on Feb. 5. A candidate needs to receive at least 40 votes from the 50-member selection committee to be inducted.
ESPN was first to report that Belichick received a call on Friday that he did not receive enough votes.
“It is the same mindset that gave pro football the new and unwatchable ‘Sissy’ Kickoff Rule, that made it possible for Bill Belichick to not be elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Both are ridiculous and should be overturned!” Mr. Trump posted on Truth Social in reference to the NFL’s new kickoff rules, which took effect at the beginning of the 2024 season.

Here’s how users on X reacted to Belichick getting snubbed:
I can’t stand Bill Belichick but him not being a first ballot hall of famer with eight super bowls is a crime. pic.twitter.com/fSIGFzs2nc

Man there's no way I read that right! Right? Ain't no WAY Bill Belichick ain't 1st Ballot HOF!! That's IMPOSSIBLE, EGREGIOUS, and quite frankly DISRESPECTFUL!

I can’t be reading this right.
This has to be some knock-off Hall of Fame or something, it can’t be the actual NFL Hall of Fame.
There is not a single world whatsoever in which Bill Belichick should not be a First-Ballot Hall of Famer. https://t.co/OXhL1Sd4FM

Back in 2016, Belichick sent a letter to Trump congratulating him on his successful campaign run, per CBS Boston:
CSN New England confirmed this morning that Bill Belichick did indeed drop a note to Donald Trump on Monday.
The Republican presidential hopeful, speaking in Manchester, New Hampshire on Monday night said he had the backing of both the Patriots head coach and quarterback Tom Brady.
Trump, then read the Belichick letter onstage:
“Congratulations on a tremendous campaign. You have dealt with an unbelievable slanted and negative media, and have come out beautifully – beautifully. You’ve proved to be the ultimate competitor and fighter. Your leadership is amazing. I have always had tremendous respect for you, but the toughness and perseverance you have displayed over the past year is remarkable. Hopefully tomorrow’s election results will give the opportunity to make America great again. Best wishes for great results tomorrow.
Bill”
