AOC Hints At 2028 White House Bid?

‘Squad’ member and Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is reportedly eyeing a potential 2028 presidential run as the Democratic Party finds its footing following President Donald Trump’s decisive win at the ballot box in 2024, according to a recent report.

Ocasio-Cortez’s team is preparing her to run for president or the U.S. Senate in 2028, when Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is up for re-election and Democrats can next run to reclaim the White House, Axios reported Friday, citing sources familiar.

The New York congresswoman has not officially made a decision on a Senate or presidential run, but has hired former senior advisors from Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ orbit as she navigates her political future, the outlet reported. She notably has joined Sanders on a national tour, called “Fighting Oligarchy,” in recent months that aims at combating Trump administration policies.

Although her odds of winning the 2028 Democratic presidential primary have risen, she has the potential to set up a generational clash against Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) in the midterm elections.

She held a series of town halls in Upstate New York this summer that could help her expand her appeal for a statewide campaign for Senate.

At one event in Plattsburgh, N.Y., she said: “Plattsburgh, we are here because every town, every city, every neighborhood in this state matters. Every corner matters. No one deserves to be ignored.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s office declined to comment. A Schumer spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.

Ocasio-Cortez’s team has done events across the nation, joining Sanders on his national “Fighting Oligarchy” tour earlier this year. Crowds chanted: “AOC! AOC!”

Some close allies believe that even if Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t think she could win, she may want to run for the White House to ensure that the Democratic Party’s progressive wing is represented in the primary — just as Sanders did in 2016 against Hillary Clinton.
