No, it's not unprecedented because it's the first time a President has done the coin toss, plenty before him have done it.

But all anyone can talk about is the fact that the coin does not appear to really flip at all, calling it more of a "coin toss" than a "coin flip":

I would venture to say that President Trump was wearing heavy black gloves and flipping the coin would have been almost impossible in those.

And President Trump is METICULOUS with the details to make sure he never has a Dukakis moment.

So he did the most logical thing, he tossed the coin.
