The anonymous billionaire who gave President Trump a $130 million check to pay our troops during the Democrat-fueled government shutdown has just been identified.
And no, it’s not Elon Musk!
Reportedly, it was 83-year-old Timothy Mellon, the grandson of former U.S. Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon who built a banking fortune prior to the Great Depression.

The donor’s alleged identity was first reported on by The New York Times:
Timothy Mellon, a reclusive billionaire and a major financial backer of President Trump, is the anonymous private donor who gave $130 million to the U.S. government to help pay troops during the shutdown, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Mr. Trump announced the donation on Thursday night, but he declined to name the person who provided the funds, only calling him a “patriot” and a friend. But the two people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the donation was private, identified him as Mr. Mellon.
Shortly after departing Washington on Friday, Mr. Trump again declined to identify Mr. Mellon while talking to reporters aboard Air Force One. He only said the individual was “a great American citizen” and a “substantial man.”
“He doesn’t want publicity,” Mr. Trump said as he headed to Malaysia. “He prefer that his name not be mentioned which is pretty unusual in the world I come from, and in the world of politics, you want your name mentioned.”
Timothy Mellon is a frequent and significant donor to President Trump, and his fortune is estimated at around $14 billion.
The New York Post provided more details on his background:
Mellon, 83, is the grandson of industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Mellon. The family is believed to be worth $14 billion, according to Forbes.
A day after Trump’s 2024 conviction for fraud in New York, Mellon donated a stunning $50 million to the pro-Trump super PAC Make America Great Again.
He lives in Wyoming, where he has kept a low profile.
Andrew Mellon, who served as the nation’s Treasury Secretary from 1921 to 1932, amassed a fortune in the years leading up to the Great Depression, and ultimately made significant philanthropic contributions to the National Gallery of Art and Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
If the reports are accurate and it was Timothy Mellon that donated money to pay our troops, I want to say thank you for helping keep our military paid during the Schumer Shutdown!
But, one thing’s for sure: it’s certainly a much better use of millions of dollars than funding ineffectual protests…
