Elon Musk Reveals Why He Will Not Attend White House AI Meeting

The White House will host an AI Summit on Thursday afternoon and evening.

The event will feature some of the biggest names in AI, such as OpenAI founder Sam Altman, Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and many more.

One of the biggest names in AI, Elon Musk, was noticeably missing from the list.

CNBC reported more on the AI event:

U.S. President Donald Trump will host two dozen high-profile tech and business leaders for an inaugural event in the White House’s renovated Rose Garden on Thursday.

Invitees include Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg, Apple
CEO Tim Cook, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and OpenAI founder Sam Altman, according to a list confirmed by a White House official.

The meeting is expected to be held over dinner after a separate White House event on artificial intelligence hosted by first lady Melania Trump.

The gathering underscores what has been a close but complicated relationship between Trump and the Big Tech sector in his second administration.

Many of the aforementioned executives have sought friendlier ties with Trump, often appearing at events alongside the president to announce moves that align with the administration’s goals on emerging technologies and American reshoring.

Fox Baltimore reported more in-depth on what role Melania Trump will play in the AI meeting:

First Lady Melania Trump will join members of the White House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence Education and private sector leaders for a meeting Thursday.

This is the second meeting of the task force, where the first lady, task force members, and others will speak about the over 135 pledges made to support AI education across the country.

“I predict AI will represent the single largest growth category in our nation during the Trump Administration—and I won’t be surprised if AI becomes known as the greatest engine of progress in the history of the United States of America. But, as leaders and parents we must manage AI’s growth responsibly. During this primitive stage, it is our duty to treat AI as we would our own children—empowering, but with watchful guidance. We are living in a moment of wonder, and it is our responsibility to prepare America’s children,” said the first lady.

In August, the first lady launched a nationwide Presidential Artificial Intelligence Challenge, which invites students and educators to”unleash their imagination and showcase the spirit of American innovation.”Students can sign up by visiting AI.Gov.

The actions follow an executive order signed by President Donald Trump in April on “Advancing Artificial Intelligence Education for American Youth.”
