WSJ Runs False Hit Piece Against Tulsi Gabbard for “Exposing” CIA “Secret Agent” — Here’s the Truth

The Wall Street Journal is even worse than CNN and MSNBC at this point.

Story after story they’ve been publishing lately have been shot down as totally fake.

And now, we have another one to add to the list.

On Wednesday, the WSJ published a story in which they claimed that DNI Tulsi Gabbard ignorantly unmasked an undercover senior CIA officer when she shared a roster of current and former officials who had their security clearances revoked.

The original WSJ report is locked behind a paywall, but the left-wing Daily Beast summarized the allegations:

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has been condemned for sharing the name of an undercover CIA officer on social media.

On Aug. 19, Gabbard posted a memo on X that included a list of 37 current and former officials who had been stripped of their security clearances, including those who had supported Trump’s first impeachment trial or concluded that Russia interfered in the 2016 election.

Also included on the list was a senior CIA officer who had been working undercover, though Gabbard was unaware of this at the time, The Wall Street Journal reported. However, sources told the newspaper that Gabbard did not consult with the intelligence agency before posting the list of names to her 762,000 online followers.

However, the WSJ either failed to do their homework or intentionally manipulated information against Tulsi Gabbard.

In truth, the so-called “undercover” CIA officer in question was not some secret agent that just had their cover blown.

Julia Gurganus is actually a very open and public member of the intelligence community.

Benny Johnson pointed out that Gurganus’ CIA role was publicly listed:

The legacy media is falsely claiming Tulsi Gabbard blindsided the CIA and unawarely exposed a “secret agent” by stripping the 37 security clearances, the “secret agent” being Julia Gurganus.

FACT: Gurganus served as a senior executive manager at the CIA’s Europe and Eurasia Mission Center, a position that was publicly listed in event programs such as the AFCEA International 2025 Spring Intelligence Symposium.

Her identity was far from secret. Tulsi coordinated the list to prevent politicization of intelligence, not to expose anyone.

Julia Gurganus was also a public speaker and wrote stories for publications like The Atlantic.

The New York Post noted:

One of the 37 intelligence professionals whose security clearance was revoked last week by Director of Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard may have had her undercover status blown, sources told The Post — but had been writing articles in major US magazines like The Atlantic and spoke at a public forum as recently as four months ago.

In addition to being an overt member of the CIA, Julia Gurganus is part of the Deep State.

She was directly involved with overseeing the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment — a key part of the Russia hoax.

The Daily Mail confirmed:

However, two senior intelligence sources, who themselves opted not to be named, told the Daily Mail that the list’s release was coordinated throughout the intelligence community and there were ‘zero concerns expressed by any of the agencies about the revocations.’

They also shared that the ‘undercover’ agent is actually an overt, well-known and public-facing CIA analyst who has direct ties to Trump’s ‘Russiagate’ investigation.

Julia Gurganus was an overt analyst, not covert operative, at the National Intelligence Council,’ one of the intelligence sources shared with the Daily Mail.

‘For years, she used her affiliation with the CIA and the Intelligence Community to write articles, speak on panels, join boards, etc.’

The unnamed source did not refute the fact that Gurganus was undercover, but instead shared that the CIA agent went covert in June as a result of the ODNI’s public releases on the 2016 Russia election investigation.

‘Ms. Gurganus was a part of the IC’s analysis of the 2016 election from the Senate’s 2020 report,’ they shared.

‘In fact, Ms. Gurganus was not just involved, she actively oversaw the production of the now infamous and highly politicized 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment.’

Another senior intelligence official said Gurganus had ties to the ‘deep state’ and the intelligence releases ‘directly implicate her.’
