California’s Gavin Newsom is openly demanding that President Trump ‘stand down’.
Actually, it was more like “STAND DOWN”, in ALL CAPS.
Newsom wrote an entire letter to President Trump with his demands.
But in the social media post on X publicizing the demand letter, (because this is all about seeking attention for Gavin than anything else) the Governor actually ended with “THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER” — as has become President Trump’s customary tagline.
I bet you didn’t know William Shakespeare once wrote about Gavin Newsom!
He described the green-eyed monster of jealousy which tends to “mock the meat it feeds on”, which perfectly describes Gavin Newsom’s jealousy of the President.
Unlike Gavin, President Trump has no problem catching — and keeping — the spotlight.
And now, on the heels of President Trump’s big win last November, the Congressional majorities held by Republicans in the House are poised to potentially ride that wave of WINNING to an entirely new level.
Borrowing from President Trump’s backbone, several states (my Texas included!) have mustered the audacity to push for REDRAWING the Congressional district voting maps which have unfairly favored Democrat majorities in the House of Representatives for far too long.
But Gavin Newsom is demanding that President Trump make phone calls to Texas and rein in the push to redraw those maps.
In fact, Newsom is issuing redistricting threats of his own, giving President Trump a 24-hour deadline (which expires TODAY), or else!
Newsom’s Office publicized the letter initially with this post on X just a little after 9am yesterday morning:
BREAKING: In a letter to Donald Trump, @CAGovernor Gavin Newsom warns that if he doesn't stand down, California will redraw its own maps to neutralize the power grab. If red states halt their efforts, California will do the same. pic.twitter.com/X2gvFDzZ9s
— Governor Newsom Press Office (@GovPressOffice) August 11, 2025
Apparently, that post didn’t catch enough attention publicly, nor did it create enough of a stir to warrant any serious response from the White House.
So a few hours later, the Governor’s “Press Office” tried re-posting the letter itself, presumably hoping for more visibility during lunch time:
Read the letter @CAGovernor Gavin Newsom just sent Donald Trump:
"If you will not stand down, I will be forced to lead an effort to redraw the maps in California to offset the rigging of maps in red states.” pic.twitter.com/Atuz478VJ5

Here’s the full text of Newsom’s very serious and not-at-all-playing-around strongly-worded letter of demands he sent to President Trump:
August 11, 2025
President Donald J. Trump
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW,
Washington, DC 20500Re: Calling Off Mid-Decade Redistricting Efforts
Dear Mr. President,
I am writing to ask you to call on the governor of Texas and other red states, who are acting on your request to draw new congressional maps through an unprecedented, mid-decade hyper-partisan gerrymander to rig the upcoming midterm elections, to stop those efforts.
You are playing with fire, risking the destabilization of our democracy, while knowing that California can neutralize any gains you hope to make. This attempt to rig congressional maps to hold onto power before a single vote is cast in the 2026 election is an affront to American democracy.
ADVERTISEMENTThis is not what the Founders envisioned, and California cannot stand idly by as this power grab unfolds. I do not do this lightly, as I believe legislative district maps should be drawn by independent, citizen-led efforts, as we have done in California for the last two decades.
If you will not stand down, I will be forced to lead an effort to redraw the maps in California to offset the rigging of maps in red states. But if the other states call off their redistricting efforts, we will happily do the same. And American democracy will be better for it.
Sincerely,
Gavin Newsom
Governor of California (Emphasis added.)
Still apparently not catching enough attention with his “ultimatum” to President Trump, Gavin’s “Press Office” again made another post later yesterday evening.
That’s when they resorted to all caps, and tried to mock President Trump’s own delivery style.
Gavin Newsom must mistake President Trump’s ability to catch the spotlight as a mere product of the President’s ability to let his unapologetic brash self take the lead.
It’s his RELEVANCE, Gavin. He literally MERITS the attention. He doesn’t get it by begging for attention over and over like the Governor of California!
Here’s the ALL CAPS POST giving President Trump 24 hours to “stand down”:
DONALD TRUMP HAS 24 HOURS LEFT TO RESPOND TO GOVERNOR NEWSOM’S LETTER. IF HE DOES NOT STAND DOWN, THERE WILL BE A VERY IMPORTANT PRESS CONFERENCE THIS WEEK WITH A MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.
— Governor Newsom Press Office (@GovPressOffice) August 11, 2025
Did Gavin Newsom just threaten President Trump — the ultimate champion of holding high-profile press conferences — with a press conference?
Leave it to the Democrat Gov. of California to bring a butter knife to a tank fight.
Newsom’s redistricting plan wasn’t really a surprise, though.
He’s been making threats like that for awhile now, as reported by Newsweek:
California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a new warning to President Donald Trump over his push for Texas Republicans to redraw congressional districts in the state ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
“If you will not stand down, I will be forced to lead an effort to redraw the maps in California to offset the rigging of maps in red states,” Newsom said in a letter to Trump on Monday.
The Democratic governor’s threat wasn’t unexpected; Newsom has warned for weeks that if Texas Republicans follow through with their push to redistrict their state, he will retaliate by doing the same in California, which is already heavily blue.
Newsom urged Trump to abandon his push, telling the president he is “playing with fire” and “risking the destabilization of our democracy.”
Democrats are within three seats of a House majority at the moment, and there are only several dozen competitive districts out of 435.
Newsom and other California Democrats are considering redrawing maps in the state to deliver the party more gains in the House, but doing so requires approval from California voters to set aside existing congressional maps in California that were approved by an independent commission.
If Texas and “the other states call off their redistricting efforts, we will happily do the same,” Newsom wrote.
One of the leading voices of the party of gerrymandering just threatened to initiate a gerrymandering war with President Trump and red states…
And in the same breath declared that President Trump is the one “risking the destabilization” of the nation.
But I have held back one of the best posts to come out of the CA Governor’s social media accounts yesterday.
Check out this cringe-worthy video Newsom uploaded trying to sound tough, talking about Trump’s “lapdogs”:
Donald Trump: It’s time to call Greg Abbott and tell him to stand down. You are not “entitled” to 5 congressional seats.
If you do not call your lapdogs off, CA will act quickly and swiftly. We will go to the ballot. We will neutralize whatever gains you make. We will not stand… pic.twitter.com/hUyQ3Amep5
— Gavin Newsom (@GavinNewsom) August 11, 2025
Here’s a full screen version of that video for convenience (and backup!):
Not to change the subject, but that sounds like someone on the campaign trail.
Is this the issue that will prove to make up Gavin Newsom’s intended presidential campaign platform in 2028?
At least the man knows he needs something to run on other than immigration, neglectful fire-prevention policies, or water management — all of which have proven themselves to be losing fights from the Democratic side of things.
In reality, Newsom’s threats to redraw the Cali Congressional districts is more than just a threat.
It’s a true ‘Hail Mary’ longshot in lieu of any real chance Democrats have of stopping conservative voices in the Republican party from being JUST AS CUT THROAT as the Democrats have been — and choosing to WIN from here on out on issues like fair elections and voter districts.
And Newsom can’t simply bring the California Legislative bodies together and make these changes like we can in Texas — oh no.
They have institutionalized “experts” to draw those maps in California. Which sounds exactly like feigning “impartiality”… while actually ensuring the political sycophants of the party wind up making those bureaucratic decisions.
That’s the DEFINITION of the institutionalized DEEP STATE!
But that also puts Newsom in a time crunch to pull off his redistricting plans before the midterms, according to The Hill:
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has said the Golden State is planning to put redistricting before voters during a special election this November, with the aim of adding several Democratic House seats to the blue stronghold.
California’s move is a direct response to redistricting efforts in Republican-led Texas, where Democratic state legislators have fled the state in a last-ditch bid to block a redraw backed by President Trump.
Newsom announced Friday that his state will move forward with plans to get a measure on the ballot that would, if approved by voters during a special election, let Democrats pass a new House map.
California state lawmakers are out for summer recess, with plans to return on Aug. 18. They’re expected to take up the matter as soon as they return, as they’re up against a deadline to make a November special election official.
“We have ’til Aug. 22nd. With the leadership behind me, they will get this on the ballot,” the governor said.
Newsom needs to call a special election to move forward because California, unlike Texas, has a bipartisan commission that is responsible for redistricting every decade. In order to circumvent the commission and redraw mid-cycle, he must put the redistricting question directly in front of voters to seek their approval before a new map can be put in place.
The measure is also expected to include “trigger” language, explaining how and who decides to move forward with redistricting in the Golden State if it happens in Texas or elsewhere.
California’s goal would be to counteract the planned GOP gains in Texas during next year’s midterms, and the ballot measure would aim to push the changes through before the midterm election in November 2026.
In reality, Newsom’s threat is nothing more than his attempt to capitalize on the potential political points he can score with his far left base.
He already had intentions of redrawing California’s voting districts.
But now he’s under the gun because TEXAS had the balls to step up and do it first to fix the unfair advantage Texas democrats have enjoyed.
Why not kill two birds with one stone and roll the entire thing into a presidential marketing add with 2028 in mind?
In other news, I’m positive President Trump is sitting around watching the clock, worried about his 24-hour window running out on Gavin Newsom’s ultimatum.
Or… not.
