President Trump said on Thursday he instructed the Department of Commerce to begin work on a new census.
Trump said anyone in the country illegally should not be included.
“I have instructed the Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on a new and highly accurate CENSUS based on modern facts and figures and, importantly, using the results and information gained from the Presidential Election of 2024,” Trump said on Truth Social.
“People who are in our Country illegally WILL NOT BE COUNTED IN THE CENSUS. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he added.

Fox News has more:
The U.S. conducts a census every decade — the last decennial census was conducted in 2020 and another is scheduled for 2030.
The decennial census is key to determining the balance of political power each state holds, because the population counts are used in apportionment, the determination of how many seats each state gets in the House of Representatives.
Consequently, the count also ultimately determines how many electoral votes each state gets for presidential elections, since a state’s electoral vote count equals the number of House and Senate seats in each state.
The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution reads in part, “Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed.”
The U.S. Census Bureau, which falls under the Department of Commerce, indicates that “unauthorized immigrants” are counted in the resident population figures, noting on a frequently asked questions web page that “all people (citizens and noncitizens) with a usual residence in the United States are included in the resident population for the census.”
A new census could make a significant impact in states with the highest figures of illegal immigrants.
“The 2020 Census was done wrong. States like California are overrepresented as the census did not fully account for their population loss (nor should illegals be counted). The ramifications congressionally and in the Electoral College are profound. In fact, had it been done correctly, President Trump wouldn’t have had to win a single ‘Blue Wall’ state in 2024,” Charlie Kirk commented earlier this year.
“Article I only says that the Census must be done ‘within’ every 10 year period. There is no prohibition on performing additional ones. President Trump and Commerce Sec. Lutnick should fix the mistakes of 2020’s botched Covid census and demand that Congress conduct a new one,” he added.

“President Trump is ordering a new census that will not count illegal aliens. President Trump supports my bill Making American Elections Great Again Act which not only orders a new census counting American citizens only, it also orders reapportionment by the new U.S. citizen count, and requires proof of citizenship to vote!!!” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said.
“Congress must pass my bill so that American citizens ONLY will be represented in Congress!” she added.

This is a Guest Post from our friends over at 100 Percent Fed Up. View the original article here.Trump previously attempted to change the 2020 Census during his first term, repeatedly saying he would continue fighting to insert a citizenship question into the survey for the first time since 1950 – something he argued was necessary to better comply with federal voting rights law – despite the Supreme Court blocking the effort.
Critics back then said adding the question would result in minorities being undercounted by scaring off even legal residents or naturalized citizens from completing the decennial questionnaire, which is also used to determine funding for an array of government programs.
Trump then retreated from his quest, instead asking government agencies to provide records that could determine a head count of citizens without polling census-takers directly.
