President Trump Brings Back Presidential Fitness Test

President Trump is once again Making America Healthy Again.

President Trump revived the Presidential Fitness Test in a new executive order.

The Presidential Fitness Test began in 1966 but abruptly ended under President Barack Obama.

AP reported more on Trump’s new executive order:

President Donald Trump on Thursday reestablished the Presidential Fitness Test for American children, a fixture of public schools for decades that gauged young people’s health and athleticism with 1-mile runs, sit-ups and stretching exercises.

“This is a wonderful tradition, and we’re bringing it back,” Trump said of the fitness test that began in 1966 but was phased out during the Obama administration.

An executive order he signed Thursday also reinvigorates a national sports council that the president stocked with former and current athletes and other figures from the sports world. Several prominent athletes joined Trump and top administration officials, including allies such as friend and pro golfer Bryson DeChambeau; and others who’ve attracted controversy such as former New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor, a registered sex offender.

It’s the latest athletics-related push from Trump, an avid golfer who remains enthralled with the world of sports. He played baseball in high school and plays golf almost every weekend. Much of the domestic travel he has done this year that is not related to weekend golf games at his clubs in Florida, New Jersey and Virginia was built around attending sporting events, including the Super Bowl, Daytona 500 and UFC matches.

“I was always a person that loved playing sports. I was good at sports,” Trump said. “When you are really focused on sports, you’ve thought about nothing else. To an extent, this is one of the reasons I like golf. You get away for a couple of hours.”

The announcement also came as Trump readies the United States to host the 2025 Ryder Cup, 2026 FIFA World Cup games and the 2028 Summer Olympics. He also signed a different executive order earlier this month mandating that federal authorities clarify whether college athletes can be considered employees of the schools they play for.

There were several notable athletes at the executive order signing, including WWE’s Triple H.

CNN reported more details on the athletes who attended the event:

The order, which the White House says addresses “the widespread epidemic of declining health and physical fitness,” instructs the presidential council to partner with professional athletes, sports organizations and influential figures.

Many of those high-profile individuals joined Trump in the White House’s Roosevelt Room to become formal members of the council. All of them have close ties to the president.

DeChambeau, a Trump favorite who currently plays on the LIV Golf League and recently visited the White House where he played golf on the South Lawn, is being named chairman of the council.

Butker met with the president in the Oval Office earlier this year. The kicker set off waves of criticism last year after he said in a controversial commencement speech that a woman’s accomplishments in the home are more valuable than any academic or professional goals and called Pride Month a “deadly sin,” among other things. Butker later defended his address and emphasized his Catholic faith.

Taylor, a New York City sports star during Trump’s golden years in the 1980s and 1990s, has spoken at the president’s campaign rallies.

Other attendees at the Thursday event included Cody Campbell, a former college football player and the head of Texas Tech’s Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) collective who has been a key voice contributing to Trump’s policies on college sports; Paul “Triple H” Levesque, the WWE’s Chief Content Officer and 14-time World Champion who is the public face of a company that has a decades-long relationship with Trump; Annika Sorenstam, a Swedish professional golfer considered one of the most successful female golfers in history; and Stephen Soloway, a New Jersey physician who served on Trump’s sports council during his first term.
