Rep. Andy Ogles has just formally requested for President Trump to be added onto one of the greatest historical landmarks in our nation — Mount Rushmore.
Citing his achievements and legendary leadership, Rep. Ogles sent a letter to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum asking him to consider the addition of President Trumps’ likeness to Mount Rushmore.
Rep. Ogles announced on X:
I'm asking @SecretaryBurgum to put Trump on Mt. Rushmore.

Given the scale and scope of President Trump’s recent achievements—especially the impending enactment of the Big Beautiful Bill, the historic act that will ignite America’s Golden Age—it is essential that we immortalize President Trump’s likeness on Mount Rushmore.Like Washington, Trump did not seek his position for glory but out of love for his country, championing American independence and reshaping the presidency with dynamism, clarity, and purpose.Like Jefferson, he expanded America’s horizons by pursuing new frontiers and breaking away from deep state tyrants.Like Teddy Roosevelt, Trump took on entrenched interests, reinvigorated American industry, and avenged the working class against bureaucratic bloat and corporate corruption. The legacy of Mount Rushmore cannot remain frozen in stone; it must evolve to reflect the full arc of American history, including its most recent and transformative chapter.
In his letter to Secretary Burgum, Rep. Ogles expanded on the parallels between President Trump’s historic presidency and the other Rushmore presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.
He also cited some of President Trump’s biggest achievements, including the passage of his ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ today!

We write to urge your consideration of a proposal that reflects the enduring legacy of a consequential American president. Given the scale and scope of recent achievements under President Donald J. Trump-including the enactment of the historic “Big Beautiful Bill” to secure our border, rebuild our military, and slash government bloat to reinvigorate our government and society—it is appropriate to explore the addition of his likeness to Mount Rushmore.
Mount Rushmore honors presidents who represent the birth, growth, development, and preservation of the United States. President Trump’s leadership advances each of those pillars.
Like George Washington, he champions American independence and is reshaping the presidency with strength and clarity of purpose. Like Thomas Jefferson, he is expanding America’s horizons and pursuing bold reforms that reorient the country’s economic direction and return power to the people. Like Theodore Roosevelt, he takes on entrenched interests and is reinvigorating American industry, rebuilding the American military, and safeguarding the working class from bureaucratic overreach. And like Abraham Lincoln, he is fighting to preserve the Union-this time not from secession, but from invasion, drift, decline, and the steady erosion of self-government.
These are not transient accomplishments. They are structural changes with lasting national significance. For decades, historians, economists, and public servants will measure their work against the standards reestablished by President Trump.
We understand that physical modifications to Mount Rushmore raise logistical and preservation questions, but this discussion should not be foreclosed based on past bureaucratic resistance or political discomfort. While meeting the logistical challenges may require engagement with state and/or tribal officials, the national benefit of promptly recognizing President Trump’s accomplishments in restoring American greatness makes doing so a priority, and the benefits of elevating the dignity and relevance of the site, thus increasing both its grandeur and its visitor traffic, will accrue to South Dakota, the Lakota Sioux, and the broader area.
The Department of the Interior owes the American people a full, fair, and transparent consideration of how best to commemorate presidential legacies of enduring consequence. That includes opening a formal review of how President Trump’s leadership might be symbolically recognized on par with the leaders already enshrined.
We urge you to initiate a feasibility assessment-technical, legal, and cultural —for this proposal, and to engage with public sentiment and expert consultation on the matter.
ADVERTISEMENTThe legacy of Mount Rushmore is not frozen in stone. It is alive in the American memory, and it should evolve to reflect the full arc of our nation’s history-including its most recent and transformative chapters.
This isn’t the first time a member of Congress has proposed adding President Trump to Mount Rushmore.
The Hill noted:
In addition to Ogles’s appeal to Burgum, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) has proposed legislation that would direct the secretary of the Interior to “arrange for the carving” of Trump’s image on Mount Rushmore. The legislation hasn’t been brought up for a hearing.
For an idea on what it could look like, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna has two mini versions of Mount Rushmore with President Trump added in her office:
Visit my office and you’ll see not one but TWO Mount Rushmore replicas with Trump’s face on them.
Why? Because he DESERVES IT! pic.twitter.com/wwZxdeSG94

Just a few months ago, Secretary Burgum seemed open to the idea, which President Trump himself floated during his first term.
Per The New York Times:
During his first term, Mr. Trump told Kristi Noem — then a U.S. representative from South Dakota, now Mr. Trump’s Secretary of Homeland Security — that his “dream” was to be on Mount Rushmore. She later gave Mr. Trump a model of Mount Rushmore with his face on it.
The idea has resurfaced since Mr. Trump returned to office. A congresswoman from Florida sponsored a bill in January to “direct the Secretary of the Interior to arrange for the carving of the figure of President Donald J. Trump on Mount Rushmore National Memorial.” It was referred to the House Committee on Natural Resources, which has yet to act on it.
In March, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said in an interview with Lara Trump, Mr. Trump’s daughter-in-law, that “they definitely have room” for Mr. Trump’s face on Mount Rushmore.
