Victoria’s Secret’s Website Gets HACKED

Victoria’s Secret’s main website was hacked on Wednesday afternoon.

The hack of its website caused stocks in Victoria’s Secret to dip.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Victoria Seret stated they have identified the security lapse on the website and “Are taking steps to address a security incident.”

The people responsible for the hack have yet to be identified.

Shares of Victoria’s Secret fell Wednesday after the lingerie company took down its US website, saying there was a prolonged “security incident.”

Shoppers visiting the website will see a black screen with the company’s statement rather than its usual selection of lingerie, sleepwear and other products.

The retailer has “identified and are taking steps to address a security incident,” according to a statement posted to its website. “We have taken down our website and some in store services as a precaution.”

It’s rare for a company of Victoria Secret’s size to have such a prolonged site-wide outage. While its physical retail stores remain open, revenue from online shopping is critical for Victoria’s Secret. The brand generated $2 billion in net sales from direct channels that include online shopping in 2024, or roughly a third of its annual sales.
In a statement to CNN, Victoria’s Secret said that it “immediately enacted our response protocols” and that “third-party experts are engaged.”

Per Newsweek:

Victoria’s Secret has shut down its website and suspended some in-store services following a “security incident,” the retailer told Newsweek on Wednesday.

“We are working to quickly and securely restore operations. We continue to serve customers in our Victoria’s Secret and PINK stores,” a Victoria’s Secret spokesperson told Newsweek.

The popular American lingerie and clothing retailer reported net sales of $6.23 billion in the 2024 fiscal year. Victoria’s Secret has more than 30,000 associates across 1,380 retail stores in around 70 countries, it said in a March press release.

The message about the outage comes just days after Memorial Day, a holiday known by shoppers for retail promotions and sales.
