President Trump Refuses To Rule Out a Third Term: “There are Methods Which You Could Do It”

No, this is not an old article.

This is brand new as of Sunday morning, March 30, 2025.

President Trump continues to say he’s interested in running for a third term.

He even told NBC News he’s “not joking”:

Of course it would need to be done legally and Constitutionally, but President Trump says there are methods for making that happen.

From NBC News:

President Donald Trump did not rule out the possibility of seeking a third term in the White House, which is prohibited by the Constitution under the 22nd Amendment, saying in an exclusive interview with NBC News that there were methods for doing so and clarifying that he was “not joking.”

“A lot of people want me to do it,” Trump said in a Sunday-morning phone call with NBC News, referring to his allies. “But, I mean, I basically tell them we have a long way to go, you know, it’s very early in the administration.”

“I’m focused on the current,” Trump added, in some of his most extensive comments to date about serving a third term.

When asked whether he wanted another term, the president responded, “I like working.”

“I’m not joking,” Trump said, when asked to clarify. “But I’m not — it is far too early to think about it.”

When asked whether he has been presented with plans to allow him to seek a third term, Trump said, “There are methods which you could do it.”

NBC News asked about a possible scenario in which Vice President JD Vance would run for office and then pass the role to Trump. Trump responded that “that’s one” method.

“But there are others too,” Trump added.

Asked to share another method, Trump simply responded “no.”

Amending the Constitution to abolish the two-term limit would be exceedingly difficult, requiring either a two-thirds vote of Congress or two-thirds of the states agreeing to call a constitutional convention to propose changes. Either route would then require ratification from three-quarters of the states.

Fox News reports President Trump likes working and would love to stay at the job:

President Donald Trump teased he might run for a third term, explaining to NBC News that he enjoys working and is “not joking” about making another run for the Oval Office.

“A lot of people want me to do it,” Trump told NBC News in a phone interview on Sunday. “But, I mean, I basically tell them we have a long way to go, you know, it’s very early in the administration.”

For now, he’s “focused on the current” term, but told the outlet he was “not joking” about making a run for a third term.

“It is far too early to think about it,” he added.

The 22nd Amendment of the Constitution, which was ratified in 1951, prevents individuals from serving more than two terms as president. The amendment was ratified after President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected as president for four terms.

Roosevelt died during his fourth term and Vice President Harry Truman assumed the presidency. FDR is the only president in the nation’s history who has been elected and served more than two terms, which was largely due to the political and economic climate at home and abroad, with his presidency unfolding amid the Great Depression and the beginning of World War II.

“There are methods which you could do it,” Trump said when asked about how he could go about running for a third term. The outlet floated a possible method where Vice President JD Vance could run for the presidency, win and pass the torch to Trump. The president said such a scenario is one of the methods he could use to serve a third term.

“But there are others too,” Trump added, without elaborating.

“I like working,” he told the outlet when asked if he wants to serve another term.

Trump has previously teased running for a third term, asking Republican lawmakers in January during a retreat, “Am I allowed to run again?”

It’s likely not Constitutionally allowed right now, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be in the future.

I could foresee President Trump making so many changes (like dissolving the IRS) and being so popular by the end of his term that the Constitution and specifically the 22nd Amendment could be amended.

Time will tell, I suppose.

It might not be (currently) Constitutionally possible, but a lot can change in four years and perhaps we will indeed get a THIRD Trump Term.

While speaking with House Republicans this morning, President Trump reportedly said “I suspect I won’t be running again unless you say ‘he’s so good we got to figure something else out!’”

Incredible man, the level of command he has over the media is unreal.

Not only does this plant the POSSIBILITY of that idea out there and takes it from the impossible into the “unlikely but possible” but it also trolls Democrats to no end!

If he does SUCH a good job these next four years that Congress decides to pass a new Amendment revoking the 22nd Amendment, what’s the problem?

What’s the problem if it follows all the official channels?
