After a pair of assassination attempts and continued threats to his safety, President Donald Trump has warranted the utmost protection of his Secret Service detail.
Early Sunday, the agency confirmed that a man had been shot near the White House after pulling a firearm on law enforcement stationed at the scene.
Details remained sparse as of the latest update provided by The Hill:
United States Secret Service personnel shot a man near the White House on Sunday following an “armed confrontation with law enforcement,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
ADVERTISEMENTSecret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said the “adult male” was transported to an area hospital and that “his condition is unknown” as of early Sunday.
No Secret Service personnel reported any injuries, Guglielmi added.
The incident took place shortly after midnight on Sunday, hours after local police shared information with the Secret Service about a “suicidal individual who may be traveling to Washington DC from Indiana.”
News of the incident soon began to spread via social media:

As Fox News reported earlier in the morning:
Members of the Secret Service encountered the man’s parked car near 17th and F Streets, NW, and saw a person matching his description nearby.
They told him to drop the weapons, but Johnson did not comply. That’s when the Secret Service says Dawson “reached toward his waist,” so they opened fire, police sources tell Fox News.
ADVERTISEMENT“As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm and an armed confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired by our personnel,” the agency wrote in a statement.
“The suspect was rushed to an area hospital and his condition is unknown.”
