Trump Campaign Forced To Move Upcoming Rally To Smaller Venue, Here’s Why

The Trump campaign ditched plans for an outdoor rally in Wisconsin on Saturday after the Secret Service said it didn’t have enough personnel to secure the site.

According to CBS News, the rally, originally intended to occur outdoors at an airport, will move to a smaller indoor venue in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

The report follows Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) saying a whistleblower claimed the Secret Service denied the Trump campaign the resources to secure a rally in Wisconsin, forcing the event’s cancellation.

“NBC News confirming my whistleblower report of earlier this week: Secret Service told Trump NO on Wisconsin outdoor rally,” Hawley said Thursday.

Per CBS News:

The Secret Service said it was short-handed due to the ongoing annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The service is responsible for providing security for foreign dignitaries while they are in the U.S.

A senior Secret Service official briefed on the planning for the Wisconsin rally said the agency was “never configured to provide such an elevated level of protection for an increasing number of protected.” The official was granted anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

“Our personnel and equipment are being pushed to their limits to sustain the current operational tempo,” the official said. “This proposed Wisconsin event also took place during the United Nations General Assembly, where the Secret Service is responsible for the safety and security of over 140 world leaders amid a challenged global threat level.”

“A whistleblower tells me the Secret Service DENIED the Trump campaign the resources & manpower for a rally in Wisconsin. That contradicts Rowe, who said Trump, Harris & Biden were all getting the same protection. Harris held a WI rally last week,” Hawley said earlier this week.

“This new information calls into question your recent public statements regarding the level of security your agency is providing to the former president,” Hawley wrote in a letter to Secret Service Acting Director Ronald Rowe.

“It also suggests that the Secret Service’s inability to fully protect former President Trump may be effecting the conduct of the presidential campaign,” he continued.

The senior official also noted that acting U.S. Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe has been advocating for a “paradigm shift.”

“This paradigm shift would also position the agency to enhance its operational readiness to reduce reliance on external partners when providing heightened protection,” the official said.

An advisory on the Trump campaign website notes the event is scheduled to take place at the Prairie du Chien Area Arts Center.

U.S. Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi noted that the agency could not offer specifics on resources allocated for the event.

“Former President Donald Trump is receiving heightened levels of U.S. Secret Service protection and our top priority is mitigating risks to ensure his continued safety at all times,” Guglielmi explained. “Out of concern for operational security, we cannot provide specific details about resources allocated for event security or communications between agency personnel and our protectees.”
