Nikki Haley Picks Up First Super Tuesday Win

Nikki Haley has just picked up her very first Super Tuesday win.

The Republican primary race was called in Vermont for Haley, who (narrowly) beat President Trump.

This is Haley’s second primary win ever, with Washington, D.C. being her first.

Nikki Haley’s campaign responded in a statement:

Keep in mind that Vermont is an open state, where Democrats can vote in the Republican primary…

But, hey, if Nikki Haley wants to toot her own horn over this, let’s just let her have her moment…

We all know what it really means.

The Washington Post reported on the results of Vermont’s primary:

Former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley has narrowly won the Republican primary in Vermont, her first victory out of 15 states on Super Tuesday and the only time a Republican woman has prevailed in a state presidential primary.

Haley beat former president Donald Trump in the state, the Associated Press reported, in a close race. It is her second victory in the Republican nomination battle; Haley also captured D.C.’s Republican primary Sunday.

Nonetheless, Trump is far ahead in the delegate battle and well on his way to securing the GOP nomination, while questions are swirling around whether Haley will continue in the race. She had committed to do so until Super Tuesday.

While Trump is closer to securing the Republican nomination, Haley’s victory in Vermont will bolster her delegate count. The state’s 17 delegates would go to Haley if she reaches 50 percent of the vote — otherwise, they would be split proportionally if she does not meet that threshold, per Vermont GOP party rules.

The state has far more registered independents and Democrats compared with Republicans, and anyone can choose which primary to cast their ballots in. Turnout was higher in the Republican primary, however. Biden won the Democratic primary with ⁦49,625 votes, with 79 percent of the votes counted.

Business Insider also said:

Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley won Vermont’s Republican primary, according to the Associated Press and DDHQ, preventing former President Donald Trump from sweeping Super Tuesday’s contests.

The former president has easily won every race he’s been in this year other than Washington DC’s, amassing hundreds more delegates than Haley. As a result of her win Tuesday night, she added 17 delegates to her overall count.

Haley may have won Vermont’s primary, besting her former boss, but her road to winning the GOP nomination appears increasingly fraught.

What do you make of this?

Are you surprised by Nikki Haley’s ‘win’?

My take is: sometimes you have to lose a battle to win the war…

And, President Trump is still on the road to victory!
