(VIDEO) ‘Comedian’ John Oliver Offers Justice Clarence Thomas $1million A Year To Resign

Comedian John Oliver says he will pay Justice Clarence Thomas $1 million a year as well as gift him a $2 million tour bus if he resigns from his position as a US Supreme Court Justice.

Justice Thomas has been a controversial conservative Supreme Court Justice.

Democrats would love the chance for Joe Biden to appoint a new liberal Supreme Court Justice who would side with him.

Business Insider shares more on the story:

John Oliver says he will give Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas a million bucks a year if he quits the Supreme Court immediately.

“This is not a joke,” he said on the latest episode of “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” which aired Sunday. “This is real. A million dollars a year until you or I die.”

Besides offering Thomas money, Oliver said he would also throw in a $2.4 million motor coach. The offer, he said, would be valid only for the next 30 days.

“So that’s the offer. A million dollars a year and a brand new condo on wheels, and all you have to do in return is sign the contract and get the fuck off the Supreme Court,” Oliver said on the program.

Oliver made the hefty offer during the season premiere of his Emmy-award-winning show. Oliver spent most of the episode discussing the Supreme Court and the issues he said were plaguing it — one of them being Thomas.

The Guardian shares more on the story:

The British-born comedian’s offer came after a steady drumbeat of media investigations in the previous several months established that Thomas failed to disclose that political benefactors bought him lavish vacation travel and real estate for his mother. Thomas also failed to disclose – as required – that he allowed school fees for a family member to be paid off and had been provided a loan to buy a luxury motor coach, all after openly complaining about the need to raise supreme court justices’ salaries.

As a result, Thomas’s impartiality came into question after he sided with the contentious ruling that eliminated the federal abortion rights once provided by the Roe v Wade case.

He also recently listened to arguments over whether Donald Trump can be removed from states’ ballots in the presidential election after the former president’s supporters – whom he told to “fight like hell” – staged the January 6 attack at the US Capitol in Washington DC. Thomas resisted pressure to recuse himself from such matters, even though his wife, Ginni Thomas, is a conservative political activist who has endorsed false claims from Trump and his supporters that the 2020 election he lost to Joe Biden was stolen from him.

Democrats love to point out when Republicans denied the 2020 election but are silent about those who denied President Trump’s victory back in 2016.
