Democrat Presidential Candidate Says His Party Is “Completely Delusional”, Attends Trump Rally

Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), a Democrat candidate in the 2024 presidential election, said his party is “completely delusional right now.”

Phillips told CNN he attended his first Donald Trump rally a couple nights ago.

“I went to a Donald Trump rally a couple nights ago. Never been to one. I had an event across the street. I saw the line of people waiting in the cold for hours,” Phillips said.

“And I thought ‘what the heck.’ I’m going to be a leader who actually invites people [and] doesn’t condemn them,” he continued.

“Met probably 50 Trump people waiting in line. Every single one of them thoughtful, hospitable, friendly. All of them so frustrated that they feel nobody is listening to them but Donald Trump. Diverse crowd. People who had never been to a Trump event before,” he added.

“My party is completely delusional right now,” he said.

Phillips tallied approximately 20% of the vote in the New Hampshire Democrat Primary.

“A little known Congressman from Minnesota built a scrappy campaign with a passionate team just 10 weeks ago, and tonight earned 21% against an incumbent President with a 50 year head-start and the full force of a party behind him. We’re just getting started! See y’all in South Carolina,” Phillips said.

President Biden won the New Hampshire Democratic primary on Tuesday, an unusual race that he skipped after his party changed its rules in favor of seeing South Carolina hold the first nominating contest of the year.

As a result, Biden wasn’t on the printed ballot. But Biden won regardless, according to a race call by The Associated Press.

The victory comes after a grassroots campaign urged Democrats to write in his name and a super PAC raised about $1.5 million to back the effort.

The outcome is more symbolic than anything. The Democratic National Committee broke with tradition this year and chose South Carolina to hold its first primary of the year, on Feb. 3. But New Hampshire has a law requiring it to go first, so it went ahead with its vote anyway.

As a result of the dispute, New Hampshire’s delegates won’t be seated at the Democratic National Convention in August, and the results won’t count toward Biden’s official nomination.

The snafu gave an opening to Rep. Dean Phillips, D-Minn., to launch a long-shot challenge against the incumbent president.

But Phillips’ push prompted the New Hampshire Democratic establishment to organize a write-in campaign to try to ensure Biden was not embarrassed by the primary results.

“I’ve built business and brands and studied the best successes in marketing history. Never known one that generated 20% market share in just ten weeks, as we did last evening in New Hampshire. We’re just getting started!” Phillips commented.

“The Democrats condemning my friendly visits with Trump supporters outside his rally are the same people coronating Joe Biden and questioning why America is so red. That’s why we need a candidate who leads with invitation, not condemnation of our fellow Americans,” Phillips said.
