Suspect Arrested In Texas After Deadly Killing Spree Claims 6 Lives

A man has been arrested in connection to an 8-hour killing spree in Austin, Texas on Tuesday.

The suspect killed four people in three different locations in the city over the course of the day.

Now it’s being reported that he’s also suspected of committing two previous murders 70 miles away in the city of San Antonio.

Texas police have identified 34-year-old Shane James as the man responsible for murdering 6 people, and injuring 3 others, including two police officers.

Police were unaware of James’ connection to the San Antonio murders until after he was arrested on Tuesday night.

It’s unaware what his connection is, if any, to the victims.

The New York Post reported on the shootings:

Texas police arrested a gunman who allegedly went on a violent city-wide shooting spree, killing 6 people and injuring three more — including two police officers — on Tuesday.

The male suspect was arrested and charged with Capital Murder of Multiple Persons late Tuesday night, the Austin Police Department said.

“The suspect is in custody and no longer poses a threat to our Austin community,” Austin Police Department’s Interim Chief of Police Robin Henderson said at a press conference Wednesday morning.

While police did not name the suspect, sources told KXAN the gunman is Shane James, 34.

Travis County jail records show a man with the same name was booked into the jail at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning and charged with capital murder of multiple people.

USA Today has more on the suspect’s connection to an earlier double murder in San Antonio:

Authorities in Texas have identified 34-year-old Shane James as the man they believe carried out a shooting rampage across Austin and a double murder in San Antonio, leaving at least six people dead and injuring three others, including two police officers.

James on Tuesday was booked into the Travis County Jail on two counts of capital murder and misdemeanor, with no other details provided, said public records reviewed by the Austin American-Statesman, part of the USA TODAY Network. Court records do not indicate that James has an attorney assigned to him.

In addition to an eight-hour shooting spree across Austin, James is believed to be responsible for a “grisly” double homicide in San Antonio, more than 70 miles southwest of the Texas capital, authorities said.

Officers were unaware the incidents were connected until after James was arrested Tuesday night, interim Austin Police Chief Robin Henderson said in a media briefing early Wednesday. It remains uncertain whether there is any relationship between James and the victims.

Currently, not much has been released on the suspect other than his name.

Newsweek has more on the suspect’s identity:

A man suspected of killing several people in a series of shootings across Austin, Texas, has been taken into custody, police said.

Officials identified the suspect as Shane James, KVUE reported. Online jail records show James, 34, was booked into Travis County Jail on four counts of capital murder in the early hours of Wednesday.

The suspect also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for assault causing injury to a family member, Robin Henderson, the interim chief of the Austin Police Department, said during a news conference early Wednesday. Additional charges are pending, she said.

“We strongly believe one suspect is responsible for all of the incidents,” Henderson said. “The suspect is in custody and no longer poses a threat to our Austin community.”

She said police had not determined the incidents were connected until Tuesday night.
