Jewish Student’s Dorm Set On FIRE At Drexel University

The tension in the Middle East appears to be making its way on U.S. soil.

A Jewish student’s dorm at the University of Drexel was intentionally set on fire but was quickly extinguished according to the Philadelphia Fire Department.

According to NBC Philadelphia, the students door was set on fire but the blaze was quickly put out before any major structural damage occurred.

No students were hurt during the incident but administrators at the school believe the fire was a targeted attack against the student.

Drexel University is investigating a possible hate crime after a Jewish student’s dorm room door was set on fire.

The Philadelphia-based university’s president, John Fry, mentioned the incident in a letter to the college community about war in Israel and Gaza following the deadly terror attack by Hamas on Israelis during a Jewish holiday.

“…There is a line between expressing strong opinions through robust discussion, debate, and peaceful protest — and targeting any individual for discrimination, intimidation, or hate,” Fry wrote in the Oct. 11, 2023, letter. “Unfortunately, we were made aware of a distressing situation that included destruction inside one of our residence halls. Thankfully, no one was injured.”

Drexel spokesperson Britt Faulstick later said that someone had lit a fire outside of a Jewish student’s door.

Here’s what The New York Post reported:

The blaze at a Drexel University dorm began around 11 p.m. Tuesday in Race Hall, according to campus police.

Police found that decorations on the student’s door were “intentionally” set on fire. The flames were “quickly extinguished” by the Philadelphia Fire Department.

The school is investigating if bias or discrimination was involved, according to a letter from University President John Fry.

“Unfortunately, we were made aware of a distressing situation that included destruction inside one of our residence halls,” he wrote. “Thankfully, no one was injured. We are investigating to determine if bias, discrimination, or hate, which we do not tolerate at Drexel, was the motivation behind this incident. The investigation into this incident is ongoing, and we will update the community once it has concluded.”
