Political Commentator: “I Quit Fox”

Political commentator Geraldo Rivera said he quit Fox News after being fired from “The Five.”

“Bumpy day on the North Atlantic. Anyway, I got fired from @TheFive so I quit Fox,” Rivera tweeted with an attached video.

“After 23 years tomorrow Fox and Friends could be my last appearance on the network. Thanks for the memories,” he added.

Long-Time Fox News Host Announces Departure From Show

“Morning, it’s official, I’m off @TheFive. My last scheduled show appearances are Thursday and Friday June 29th and 30th. It’s been a great run and I appreciate having had the opportunity. Being odd man out isn’t always easy. For the time being, I’m still Correspondent at Large,” Rivera tweeted.

Rivera joined “The Five” in January 2022 as a rotating liberal co-host.

The political commentator said he could never support Donald Trump again for “his shameful campaign to slander and undermine American faith in our elections.”

AP reports:

Rivera said that Fox fired him from his regular perch on “The Five,” and that he decided to leave the network as a result.

With his last two appearances on the afternoon political talk show apparently canceled, Rivera received a going-away party on the morning show “Fox & Friends,” where he generally delivered commentary once a week.

“I feel very emotional and deeply moved,” Rivera said following a tribute that included clips from his career and goodbye messages from the likes of Jesse Watters, Bret Baier, Sean Hannity and Jeanine Pirro.

Rivera joined Fox News in 2001 to be a war correspondent.

CNN added:

In a statement Thursday, a Fox News spokesperson said, “We reached an amicable conclusion with Geraldo over the past few weeks and look forward to celebrating him on Fox & Friends Friday morning which will be his last appearance on the network.”

The announcement comes little more than a week after Rivera said his time as one of the rotating liberal-leaning co-hosts on “The Five” was coming to an end. But Rivera said at the time he would remain with the network as correspondent at large.

His departure comes amid drama with network star Greg Gutfeld, who had rebuked Rivera in April after he tweeted in the wake of Tucker Carlson’s firing that the ousted host’s conspiracy theories about the January 6 attack on the US Capitol were “bulls**t.”

In his final appearance on the network Friday morning, Rivera thanked the staff for his two decades at the network and used the moment to praise affirmative action in college admissions after the programs were gutted Thursday by the Supreme Court in a contentious decision.
