Gov. Ron DeSantis Threatened With “Kidnapping Charges”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom threatened Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis with “kidnapping charges” due to flights of illegal migrants that landed in Sacramento.

“@RonDeSantis you small, pathetic man. This isn’t Martha’s Vineyard. Kidnapping charges?” Newsom tweeted Monday.

“Every person who, being out of this state, abducts or takes by force or fraud any person contrary to the law of the place where that act is committed, and brings, sends, or conveys that person within the limits of this state, and is afterwards found within the limits thereof, is guilty of kidnapping,” a legal code Newsom attached read.

According to Axios, California Attorney General Rob Bonta accused Florida officials of “misleading migrants over their transportation from the Texas border to Sacramento.”

Axios reports:

Bonta told KCRA he has evidence that the two flights that arrived in Sacramento within four days of each other were part of a “scheme” that’s “official policy of the state of Florida whereby the state of Florida used public tax dollars to fund this program, the so-called voluntary transportation program.”

The California A.G. said on ABC News Monday night that his investigation indicated that the migrants were misled by being promised help finding jobs if they got on the planes, but were later “dumped and deserted.”
Meanwhile, California authorities said they have evidence that Vertol Systems, which Florida officials paid to fly 49 undocumented migrants to Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts last September, was hired to transport the Latin American migrants to Sacramento.

A spokesperson for California’s attorney general confirmed this in an emailed statement early Tuesday ET, saying the people who arrived in Sacramento “carried documents indicating that their transportation to California involved the State of Florida.”

“All arrows point to this is the official program … of Ron DeSantis’ state of Florida,” Bonta said on ABC of the planes that arrived Monday and Friday, carrying a total of 36 migrants.

Gov. Newsom issued the following statement Saturday on migrants arriving in California:

“Today, Attorney General Rob Bonta and I met with over a dozen migrants in Sacramento. These individuals were transported from Texas to New Mexico before being flown by private chartered jet to Sacramento and dumped on the doorstep of a local church without any advance warning. We are working closely with the Mayor’s office, along with local and nonprofit partners to ensure the people who have arrived are treated with respect and dignity, and get to their intended destination as they pursue their immigration cases. My Administration is also working with the California Department of Justice to investigate the circumstances around who paid for the group’s travel and whether the individuals orchestrating this trip misled anyone with false promises or have violated any criminal laws, including kidnapping.”

The Blaze added:

Bonta went on to describe the incident as “state-sanctioned kidnapping” and called it “immoral and disgusting.”

DeSantis, who is running for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, has not confirmed his involvement.

Newsom previously demanded that the federal government do something to alleviate the illegal immigration crisis after admitting that the burden of providing social services to illegals was damaging California financially.

DeSantis has previously earned the ire of Newsom, and he shot back one of his own insults after the California governor excoriated him for sending migrants to Martha’s Vineyard.

“All I can say is I think his hair gel is interfering with his brain function,” DeSantis joked in September in response.
