Former Biden Administration Official Arrested on ‘Fugitive From Justice’ Charges

Sam Brinton, a former official in the Department of Energy, was arrested in Maryland on charges of being a “fugitive from justice.”

The Montgomery County Police Department arrested Brinton, 35, in Rockville, Maryland, at 10 p.m. Wednesday evening.

According to reports, Brinton’s arrest relates to allegations of stolen luggage from an airport.

The New York Post reported:

Brinton is currently in custody pending charges of Grand Larceny stemming from allegations of stolen property at Ronald Reagan National Airport that the department learned of in Feb. 2023, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police said.

A lawyer for Tanzanian fashion designer Asya Khamsin later told The Post the charges are related to her missing suitcase.

Arrest records show that Brinton — who is non-binary and uses they pronouns — was arrested on the 700 block of College Parkway as a fugitive from justice.

“They are being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit on a no-bond status as they await an extradition hearing,” an MCPD spokesperson explained.

The Washington Examiner added:

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police, who oversee Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, and Washington Dulles International Airport in Dulles, Virginia, confirmed to the Washington Examiner that the arrest was on charges of grand larceny.

“Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police executed a search warrant May 17 in Montgomery County, Maryland, in connection with allegations of stolen property in luggage from Reagan National Airport that was brought to the department’s attention in February 2023. With the assistance of Montgomery County Police, Samuel Otis Brinton, age 35, of Rockville, Maryland, was taken into custody Wednesday pending charges of Grand Larceny,” MWAA Police said in a statement to the Washington Examiner.

Public records show that a hearing for Brinton was scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thursday at Montgomery County District Court after Brinton was arrested on Wednesday.

Brinton was let go from the Department of Energy after getting busted for stealing luggage from the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

He appeared in court for the charges and faced up to five years in prison.

However, Brinton agreed to participate in an adult diversion program that included a mental health evaluation.

The program also required Brinton to write an apology letter to the victim, return any stolen property, and complete community service.
