Mike Lindell just made one of the biggest business decisions of his life.
And he made it with Minnesota Republicans already voting in a governor’s race that could determine the next chapter of his public life.
The MyPillow founder announced that he is stepping down as CEO of the company he launched more than two decades ago.
His reason is simple: He says he is going all-in on his campaign for governor.

This is more than a ceremonial title change.
According to KSTP 5 Eyewitness News, Lindell said he will no longer be involved in MyPillow’s day-to-day operations. He will remain on the board and retain a minority ownership stake, but control of the business is moving to a familiar pair of hands.
James Furlong, who served as MyPillow president from 2004 through 2019, is returning to become CEO. The company says its operations will continue through the transition.
“I will be no longer involved in any way, shape or form,” Lindell told the station about running the company. “I will be running for governor. I’m all in for governor.”
Lindell founded MyPillow in 2004 and has remained the public face of the brand ever since. The handoff therefore separates the company’s operations from the political campaign without pretending the founder has sold every share or severed every connection.
In practical terms, Furlong gets the executive authority while Lindell keeps a smaller financial interest and a seat at the boardroom table. Lindell said the company is “stronger than ever” and ready for the transition.

The distinction matters.
Lindell is not cutting every tie to the company that made him famous. He is stepping away from operating it so the governor’s race can have his full attention.
The timing tells you how serious he is.
Minnesota’s primary is August 11. Early voting is already underway, which means Lindell is making this move while ballots are being cast—not months before voters begin paying attention.
He also enters the final stretch with President Trump’s endorsement.
A July KSTP/SurveyUSA poll put Lindell at 35 percent in the Republican primary. Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth followed at 26 percent, while party-endorsed businessman Kendall Qualls stood at 11 percent.
That survey placed Lindell nine points ahead of his nearest rival and eight points higher than the previous month’s result. Demuth had gained four points, while Qualls had fallen into a distant third.
Lindell’s strongest movement came among women and voters age 65 and older, according to the station’s breakdown. Demuth also gained among younger voters, a reminder that the race was still moving as the primary approached.
A poll cannot decide the election, especially with voters still making up their minds. It can show why Lindell would want every remaining hour focused on the campaign instead of splitting his attention with a national company.
Now he has removed a question his opponents could have pressed in the closing days: whether a CEO could truly give Minnesota a full-time governor.
The answer he is offering is unmistakable. He is giving up the chief executive’s chair before voters make their choice.
There is real risk in that decision.
Lindell built MyPillow into a nationally recognized brand and made himself inseparable from its identity. Even with a board seat and minority stake, walking away from daily control means trusting someone else with the company while he takes on a political contest with no guaranteed ending.
It also creates a powerful closing argument.
Lindell can now tell Republican voters that the campaign was important enough to change his business life.
His opponents will have their own response. They can argue that executive experience is not the same as governing, that a company transition does not settle every question about his candidacy, and that one poll does not decide a primary.
Voters will weigh those arguments on August 11.
What Lindell cannot be accused of is hedging his bets.
With less than a week before the primary, he has made the stakes personal. MyPillow will move forward under new leadership, and Lindell will find out whether Minnesota Republicans are ready to put him in charge of something much bigger.
