Medical Examiner Releases Preliminary Report Listing Sen. Graham’s Cause Of Death

While many D.C. deaths have fueled decades of controversy, the initial mystery surrounding Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) sudden death appears to be resolving itself.

Following early reports that emergency personnel were called to Graham’s residence in response to an apparent cardiac event, the medical examiner released a report less than a day after the senator’s death.

According to The Hill:

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) died on Saturday of an aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease, the office of the D.C. Chief Medical Examiner said Sunday.

“The death certificate will be PENDING until all the toxicological and microscopic testing are finalized and at that point the death certificate will be updated to reflect the cause of death and appropriately classify the manner of death,” noted the office of Dr. Francisco Diaz, the chief medical examiner of the nation’s capital.

News of the findings soon sparked social media discussion:

Meanwhile, Politico reported on the political chaos Graham’s death will likely cause ahead of the midterms:

Graham was up for reelection in November, having just dispatched primary challenger Mark Lynch just over a month ago. He was set to face Democrat Annie Andrews, a doctor who fairly comfortably won the Democratic primary.

Republicans will now race to replace Graham on the November ballot in a special primary election in mid-August, according to state law.

In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday morning, President Donald Trump said he was already considering who he might back in the race.

“I have somebody that I think would be great, but I don’t want to say it now because it’s just, you know, it’s too soon with Lindsey,” he said. “I don’t want to even talk about anybody, but I do have somebody that I think is really good.”
