General Michael Flynn has once again received a payday.
New court filings reveal former Trump adviser Michael Flynn has reached a settlement with the Department of Justice.
Flynn’s settlement stems from a lawsuit he made against the the Federal Government for withholding his military retirement pay.
The settlement comes just months after Flynn settled another lawsuit with the DOJ after the FBI maliciously targeted him due to his ties with President Trump.
CNN reported more on Flynn’s settlement and revealed how much money he received:
Former Trump adviser Michael Flynn has reached another settlement with the Justice Department — this time for over $38,000 in retirement funds the Army had withheld from the former general after officials found he earned money from speaking at an event tied to the Russian government in 2015.
The new settlement comes on the heels of a separate settlement between Flynn and Trump’s Justice Department for over $1 million after he sued the government for wrongful prosecution. Flynn alleged the FBI tried to entrap him in the early days of the Trump administration, as investigators probed Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 election.
Flynn’s payouts could serve as a playbook for those who intended to apply for compensation through the now-defunct anti-weaponization fund the Justice Department set up earlier this year for those who believe they were victimized by the DOJ.
Shortly after it was announced, and amid a flurry of criticism from Republican lawmakers, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told members of Congress the fund was dead. Despite Blanche’s assurances, a federal judge has asked Blanche to provide a sworn statement declaring the fund has been defunct. Blanche has so far refused.
In discussing the death of the fund, Blanche has suggested other paths for people who were alleged victims of the Justice Department — including through civil lawsuits like the one Flynn originally filed.
After Flynn received his first settlement from the DOJ, Democrats began to meltdown:

The Hill reported Rep. Jamie Raskin demanded the DOJ to release the files on Flynn’s first payment:
Rep. Jamie Raskin (Md.), the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, is demanding files related to the Justice Department’s settlement with Michael Flynn, arguing it “offers a road map for this epically corrupt President to keep paying out his political underlings” with taxpayer funds.
ADVERTISEMENTThe Justice Department late last month agreed to pay $1.25 million to Flynn, President Trump’s former national security adviser, in connection to a case where he pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about meeting with the Russian ambassador.
Flynn in 2017 pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI as part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. In 2023, he brought a malicious prosecution suit seeking $50 million, but the Department of Justice (DOJ) fought the suit, and it was dismissed by a judge.
“That dismissal should have been the end of it. But when Donald Trump returned to office and Mr. Flynn refiled his amended complaint, your DOJ entirely reversed its position,” Raskin wrote in a letter to acting Attorney General Todd Blanche.
“Suddenly, the Department decided to give Mr. Flynn $1.25 million—to settle a case it had already won. The Department out of nowhere chose to fork over substantial amounts in taxpayer dollars for having the audacity to investigate, prosecute, and convict a Trump ally who had admitted to committing a serious felony by lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian officials.”
An attorney for Flynn defended the settlement.
“General Michael Flynn served his country honorably for decades before being targeted by a weaponized FBI for his support of Donald J. Trump. The Trump DOJ did not create this injustice, but by settling General Flynn’s legitimate lawsuit, they delivered justice and finality,” Jesse Binnall, an attorney for Flynn, said by email, equating the settlement to others given to figures like Peter Strzok and Lisa Page after the Justice Department released the former FBI agents’ texts.
Currently Flynn plays no major role in the Trump administration.
He was however in March of 2025 appointed by President Trump to serve on the oversight board at West Point.
Trump’s decision to appoint Flynn to the board came as part of his plan to restore military academies after they were “infiltrated by woke leftist ideologues” during the Biden years.
