With just hours left until the big Fourth of July celebration, attendees at the Great American Fair in D.C. had to cut their visit short on Friday.
Reports began to surface on social media of an announcement advising guests to seek the nearest exit due to extreme heat, noting that the festivities would resume when temperatures retreated later in the day.

The Great American State Fair on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., has temporarily closed because of dangerous heat.
ADVERTISEMENTEvent organizers announced the fair, located adjacent to the Salute to America celebration, is closing to the public and asked guests to leave the grounds as temperatures reached triple digits this afternoon.
Organizers said they expect the fair to reopen at 5 p.m. ET, weather and conditions permitting.
⚠️ Due to the heat, and in coordination with public safety officials, the Great American State Fair will be temporarily closed until 5:00 p.m. today.
