While candidates running in the US under the Democrat banner generally shy away from any label stronger than “socialist,” Vice President J.D. Vance is among the growing number of Americans who see something even more sinister underneath the far-left agenda of some recent primary winners.
As The Hill reported, he made his latest comment during a recent interview on Fox News Channel’s “The Ingraham Angle”:
“I unfortunately fear that’s the direction the Democrats are headed,” he replied. “And it is communism, Laura. This is not — you know, this is not raising taxes a little bit, however much we might disagree with that. This is abolishing the police. This is letting criminals run amok in your cities. This is –– flood your country with low-wage third-world immigrants.”
Vance speculated that the rise of democratic socialist candidates is “a consequence of the fact that the Democrat Party has become run by the universities and by the professors. This is not working-class, union Democrats.”

Of course, he’s far from the only public figure to speak out against the Democrat Party’s rapid leftward lurch:
A lot of morons don't understand that communism IS socialism. And they lie to pretend it's not a distinction without a difference.
"Democrat Socialist" is to communists what "National Socialist" was to Nazis.
Socialism is the thin velvet glove for the iron fist. https://t.co/rgQcCCOLfH

Some in the party’s more moderate camp have denounced its rapid leftward lurch while others are embracing the march toward communism:
Democrat Socialist Melat Kiros — who said 9/11 was America's fault — says socialism is going to continue taking over the Democrat party.
CNN: “Do you see evidence on a broader national scale that progressive voices are in fact gaining support?”
KIROS: “Absolutely.” pic.twitter.com/TDCCZ5YRQ9

Yahoo News recently reported on a statement signed by more than a dozen Democrats who pushed back against the socialist uprising in their party:
Suozzi told Fox & Friends, “As we said in our pledge… we’re for capitalism, not socialism. We’re for safety, not lawlessness. We’re proud of America, not ashamed of America — and we need to be promoting those things.” He added that both the far left and far right are well organized, and moderates must do better at organizing.
Potential Impact of the Division
The public split comes as Democrats assess losses in recent cycles and prepare for midterms. Moderates argue that embracing socialist-leaning policies has hurt the party in battleground areas. Progressives counter that bold left-wing ideas mobilize the base and address inequality.
Here’s some additional commentary on the growing rift inside the Democrat camp:
