President Trump Vows He Won’t Let Triple-Digit Temperatures Derail His ‘Really Long’ July 4 Speech

As a massive heat wave keeps much of the nation sweltering under triple-digit temperatures this week, many Independence Day plans are starting to take a different shape in order to keep everyone cool.

But in the nation’s capital, President Donald Trump said he’s got no plans to revise the schedule or setting for a major rally aimed at ringing in the nation’s 250th birthday.

As The Hill reported:

“By the way, on July 4th, it’s going to be approximately 107 degrees out, and I’m going to go, and I’m going to make a really long speech just to show that I can do anything,” Trump said during his appearance at the opening ceremony for the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in Medora, N.D.

Saturday’s “Salute to America 250 Celebration & Fireworks” event on the National Mall is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., with Trump slated to speak at 9:45 p.m. EDT. Freedom 250, the Trump administration’s organization behind the scenes operating the Great American State Fair along the National Mall, will also orchestrate the Salute to America event.

The president previously billed the event on the National Mall as “the most spectacular TRUMP RALLY of them all.”

Social media users have been discussing the big plans:

USA Today added these details:

Trump’s speech at the National Mall isn’t scheduled to begin until 9:45 p.m. ET, however, when temperatures will be a bit cooler than the day’s high.

Trump’s remarks will follow a “Salute to America” program that is set to begin on the National Mall at 7 p.m. ET. Because of the program and Trump’s speech, the fireworks aren’t scheduled to begin until 10:30 p.m., later than Fourth of July celebrations from past years.

Organizers from Freedom 250, the Trump-aligned group that is organizing the festivities, say the fireworks ‒ which will be launched from 10 sites ‒ will be the “largest fireworks display in history.”

Here’s a clip of his remarks:
