The future of the Democratic Party appears, at least for now, to be in the hands of its far-left socialist wing.
After successes including from a trio of candidates backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, many of the party’s more moderate voices began speaking out against the growing schism.
But when asked about a so-called “moderate manifesto” during a recent interview, Mamdani couldn’t resist laughing before he dismissed the effort to stall a socialist takeover of the party.
Per The Hill:
“I’m not interested in writing a manifesto or, frankly, in reading one. I’m interested in delivering, and that’s exactly what we’ve been showing,” Mamdani said during a Sunday appearance on ABC’s “This Week.”
New Jersey Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D) signed on to the manifesto that ties the Democratic party to capitalism over socialism and defends a “growing, fair, and competitive economy that rewards hard work, innovation, entrepreneurship and ownership”
The move by Gottheimer aligns with establishment Democrats who say socialism has no room in the Democratic party while arguing New York campaign victories won’t translate to national races in November dubbing.

The radical views of this new wave of socialist candidates have sparked considerable social media attention in recent weeks:

Have you noticed how all of these socialist candidates come from wealthy, well-connected families, attend elite universities, and then step straight into politics without ever holding a typical private-sector job?
Weird.

Many establishment Democrats are welcoming the party’s rapid shift to the left, though, including Bill Clinton.
As Fox News reported:
Former President Bill Clinton expressed confidence in Democrats’ prospects after three socialist candidates won key New York primaries, stating he believes the Democratic Party is in “good shape” to be successful in November’s midterm elections.
“I think we’re in good shape for the fall,” Clinton told Fox News Digital when asked about the outcome of Tuesday’s elections.
The victories by three far-left candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of Americawho won their respective races on Tuesday — Darializa Avila Chevalier, Brad Lander and Claire Valdez — have fueled debate within the Democratic Party over whether these progressive campaigns offer a winning blueprint heading into the midterm elections and a legitimate roadmap to national success for the party.
