This particular aircraft was gifted to the United States by Qatar and will be one of three jets used to transport the president.

CBS News reported further:

The Air Force on Friday unveiled the Boeing 747-8 that will serve as the new Air Force One, giving the public the first look at the $400 million luxury plane the U.S. accepted as a gift from the Qatari government last year.

The Air Force said in a release that the aircraft will begin “commissioning flights” before entering into active service to transport the president. The plane is now at Joint Base Andrews, the military post outside Washington that has served as the presidential airport for decades.

“Fresh from receiving its new red, white, and blue livery and the final government modifications, the aircraft has entered service to provide critical, secure continuity for the commander in chief,” the Air Force said.

The release said the plane is “safe, secure and equipped with the most advanced technologies necessary to meet the requirements of the presidential mission.” The Air Force said it prioritized operational readiness over aesthetics, leaving the “interior layout minimally changed.” That likely means the luxury finishings, leather seats and glossy wood paneling will remain intact.

However, the other two Boeing planes have faced major delays and are not expected to be ready until after President Trump’s term ends.

The Hill has more details:

There are three 747-800s being outfitted now to serve as presidential aircraft, including a luxury jet donated by the Qatari government, referred to by the Air Force as VC-25B, or the “bridge” plane. The Air Force signaled in May that the Qatari plane was on track to be used as a temporary Air Force One as soon as this summer. The service said it had finished modifying and testing the new plane.

The plane will be used to “relieve pressure on the aging VC-25A fleet,” said Gen. Dale White, the Department of Defense’s direct reporting portfolio manager for critical major weapons systems, in a May statement.

An Air Force spokesperson told NBC News last week the “VC-25As will continue to serve in the executive fleet and could still be used by the president as Air Force One.”

The two other planes expected from Boeing have been repeatedly delayed. They were originally expected in 2024 but are now expected in mid-2028.

The planes will feature a whole new color scheme of red, white, gold, and navy blue, which is Trump’s preference. Current and past planes featured a two-toned lighter blue color scheme.

President Trump said that he personally talked to Qatar’s leader about getting a jet because Boeing was simply taking too long!

“I asked the Emir if we could use the brand new 747 that he got…our planes are old. A normal president wouldn’t do this, a normal president wants to stay away from aircraft.”

“We don’t want to order any aircraft so that everybody thinks, but our country has to be represented properly!”
