The White House announced Thursday that five more Ukrainian and Russian children separated from their families by the war have now been reunited with their loved ones.

Thursday’s announcement marks the fifth successful return.

The White House says Mrs. Trump and her representative continue working directly with both the Russian and Ukrainian governments to identify displaced children and return them safely to their families and communities.

In her statement, the First Lady said diplomacy matters, but the ability to place children above international disputes matters even more. Every successful return, she said, proves that compassion, dignity, and family can survive even the darkest conditions of war.

The five children reunited Thursday are the latest result of a channel Mrs. Trump has kept open through five separate rounds. The White House did not publish their names or travel details, protecting the children while confirming that they are back with the people who care for them.

The latest five children are the first group announced since April, when six Ukrainian minors living in Russia were cleared to return home and a seventh child was scheduled to follow. A December round reunited another seven children — six boys and one girl — with families in Ukraine.

The White House now puts the broader result at roughly 30 Ukrainian children returned to loved ones. Each round has required the First Lady’s representative to keep working with both governments on identification, logistics, and safe passage while the war continued around them.

The earlier returns show that this is a sustained operation, not a one-day photo opportunity.

The initiative has required repeated cooperation from officials on both sides of a war that began with Russia’s invasion in February 2022. The latest five are the first group announced since April, showing that the painstaking work continued even when no new return was ready for public view.
