A 17-year-old girl was stabbed in the neck on a public street in Brierfield, near Burnley in England, in the middle of a Friday afternoon.
Lancashire Police were called to Wood Street at 3:06 PM on June 12, 2026, after reports that a girl had been assaulted. Armed officers arrived and arrested a 30-year-old man from the town.
He is being held on suspicion of attempted murder and remained in custody at the time of reporting.

The girl was stabbed in the back of the neck and taken to hospital. The good news is that she survived.
Sky News reported her injuries were not life-threatening or life-changing, and that she was communicating with officers and medical staff. By the next day, GB News reported she had been discharged from hospital after treatment.
Online, the usual rush to assign motive and identity began almost immediately. Police pushed back on it directly.

The man who was arrested yesterday on suspicion of attempted murder after a 17-year-old girl was stabbed is a British-born man of Pakistani heritage, Lancashire police have confirmed.
The 30-year-old man from Brierfield, Lancashire was arrested shortly after the incident and remains in custody.
The teenage victim was stabbed in the back of the neck but has subsequently been discharged from hospital, police have confirmed.
A spokesman for the police said there is “currently no evidence to suggest this attack was racially motivated”.

Brierfield's MP Oliver Ryan has urged people “stick to the facts” and not “exploit” the incident for “clickbait”.
“To address speculation, it is my understanding that both the attacker and the victim are Brierfield residents, and British.”
So one early online label does not hold up against the current reporting. Police say he is British-born and of Pakistani heritage, and they say there is no evidence so far that the attack was racially motivated.
That is the responsible thing to report.
Investigators say a dedicated team is now following inquiries and that there are no further suspects at this time. Extra patrols are being deployed in the area while the investigation continues.

Strip away the speculation and the bare facts are bad enough. A teenage girl was knifed in the neck on a public street, in daylight, in a country where ordinary people are exhausted by the steady drumbeat of knife attacks.
She lived, and a suspect is in custody. That is the result everyone should want, and the rest is now on the detectives to prove in court rather than online.
