Although the fragile ceasefire has shown several signs of cracking in recent days, the negotiation between the US and Iran continues to move forward.
And just before American forces were expected to launch a retaliatory strike on Iran, President Donald Trump on Thursday shared an encouraging update on the matter.
Here’s what Fox News reported:
President Donald Trump says he has canceled plans to carry out further attacks against Iran on Thursday, claiming to have made progress in talks with leaders in Tehran.
ADVERTISEMENT“Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening. Discussions and final points have been, in both concept and great detail, approved by all parties involved, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and others. The Naval Blockade will remain in full force and effect until this Transaction is finalized — Time and place of the signing to be announced shortly,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
Trump had previously announced a heavy wave of strikes against Iran earlier Thursday. It would have been the third consecutive day of U.S. attacks.
News of the planned strike and Trump’s decision to call it off were popular topics of discussion on social media:
A good move I must say. It was causing so much tension across the world.

Gut feeling says that this time the deal is really happening. It was expected that this escalation will lead to the end of the war.

Here’s what CNBC added:
“Discussions and final points have been, in both concept and great detail, approved by all parties involved,” including Israel and nine other regional powers, Trump wrote on Truth Social just hours after vowing to hit Iran “very hard” on Thursday evening.
But Trump — who has claimed for months that a peace deal with Iran is close at hand, only for none to emerge — indicated in his latest post that the purported agreement has yet to be made official.
ADVERTISEMENTThe U.S. Naval blockade of Iranian ports in the Gulf of Oman will “remain in full force and effect until this Transaction is finalized,” Trump wrote.
Stock indexes nevertheless soared, and oil prices sank, right after Trump’s announcement.
