Bill Maher Skewers Media For Portraying Charlie Kirk As A ‘Monster’: ‘I Liked Him’

What sets “Real Time” host Bill Maher apart from most of his fellow leftists isn’t so much his politics, but his ability to still see people he disagrees with as human beings.

While the late Charlie Kirk continues to have his name dragged through the mud by leftists who spread lies about who he was and what he stood for, Maher recently took a stand on his behalf and defended his reputation from the ongoing posthumous assault.

Breitbart provided this relevant excerpt:

“They’re doing a documentary [on Kirk], and they asked if I would be in it,” Maher revealed during Monday’s episode of his Club Random podcast, adding, “I said yes.”

“And I told them, ‘Don’t expect me to be just saying, you know, hey geography about Charlie.’ I liked him as a person,” Maher continued.

The Real Time with Bill Maher host then disclosed that he is glad he got to speak with Kirk before he was assassinated.

Bill Maher slammed the establishment press for “mischaracterizing” what slain conservative icon Charlie Kirk actually believed. “I liked him as a person,” Maher said of Kirk. “I do not think he was a monster.”

“I’m glad I talked to him. I do not think he was a monster,” Maher said.

He then blasted the mainstream media for mischaracterizing the Turning Point USA founder’s beliefs.

“If you look at his statements — I’ve read the full statements, of course, because everybody is only interested in getting points for their team — they mischaracterized them,” Maher asserted.

Maher’s rational assessment of Kirk’s legacy fueled plenty of social media discussion:

The Christian Post also covered Maher’s recent remarks:

Maher used Kirk as an example of a broader problem in American politics, where people frequently form opinions about public figures without ever hearing them directly.

Describing himself as an “old-school liberal,” Maher told Dunham that he believes Republicans are better at sitting down to talk with people who disagree with them. He pointed to several conservative guests who have appeared on his programs, including Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla.

“Anna Paulina Luna — love her!” Maher said. “We had a great time, I was like, ‘If I’d only known about you what I’d read, I would have thought [you were] crazy. You’re not crazy!'”

Here’s a clip of Maher’s interview with Kirk:
