Spielberg Says ‘Disclosure Day’ Will Cause Christians to Question ‘Fundamental Beliefs’ About God

Steven Spielberg is hitting the interview circuit leading up to the release of his newest movie.

‘Disclosure Day’ — I’ll be honest… I can’t WAIT to see it.

Who doesn’t love an edge-of-your-seat Spielberg “THEY’RE HERE, THEY’RE HERE!” alien-reveal movie!?  I LOVE that stuff!

Get the popcorn popping!

But I’m also interested in it because Spielberg himself has touted it as being more non-fiction than fiction. (We’ll get to that in a moment.)

But there’s another reason this movie is catching so much attention in a more subtle way, but one that Spielberg himself just talked about.

And that’s simply because it causes you to think.

Now, don’t get the wrong idea… Spielberg’s lefty American Hollywood Jewishness doesn’t exactly jive with my old-school Bible-thumping approach to the question of space aliens.

Here’s MY disclosure — demons, trans-dimensional, just like the Bible has taught this whole time.

So I’m not at all saying that some Hollywood alien movie — even a Spielberg alien movie — should cause a Christian to question their faith in God.

There’s one authority alone for any Christian worth his salt on that issue, and that’s the Bible.

And I’m not exactly sure that’s truly what SPIELBERG just said, either.

But he just gave an interview with CBS News in which he said point blank that the movie will likely cause people to question the ‘fundamental beliefs’ they hold about God.

I will give him this: that’s probably true to some extent!

And it’s probably not a bad thing… considering how we live in a culture that tends to scrape by on shallow thinking — even on issues as important as what someone believes about God.

Again, I’m not defending Spielberg’s liberal take on God.  But you really have to catch the full context of what he says, to get at the heart of what he means.

Here’s one clip from the CBS News interview that includes the portion that is getting so much attention:

Spielberg theorizes what would happen if the government had been hiding secrets about ‘aliens’ since 1947, and suddenly that information spills out.

Welcome to the 2020’s!  Hello! — Right???

That might actually be the single point of agreement shared by almost EVERY American, regardless of where they fall on the political spectrum, regardless of even religious belief!

But the details of what that truth is, and what it actually means — how do you define ‘alien’? — that’s where the differences lie.

And the “fundamental beliefs” Spielberg was talking regarding God which may be likely to get stirred up by this movie all depends on your predisposition towards those things.

What a person believes about God, the Bible, even ‘aliens’ — that’s the lens through which that person will view anything, including this movie.

Will an increase in questioning as a result of this movie “mess up a lot of people”?  Maybe, if you don’t really know what you believe, and why, to begin with.

How do the lyrics go?  “You’ve got to stand for something, or you’ll fall for anything”.  (Thank you for that, Aaron Tippin.)

That overlays pretty coherently with the latter times described in Scripture and the increase of deception foretold in the Bible.

Though I find it curious and a bit odd that Spielberg actually said ‘Disclosure Day’ looks at the premise of aliens through the eyes of the church during his interview with CBS News:

“Close Encounters” ends with the arrival of the aliens. Forty-nine years later, Spielberg imagines they never left, but their presence has been systematically denied and covered up, in his new film, “Disclosure Day.”

“‘Disclosure Day’ is about how, if somebody had the power and if somebody had possession of the entire archive of visual evidence of what’s been happening for the last 80 years, what would happen if they decided to do a data dump across the entire world all at once?” Spielberg said.

“The movie takes the position of the believers, or the curious, the ones that have been deeply affected by this,” said Spielberg.

“And the movie also takes the position of the church. What does this do to the fundamental beliefs that many of us have? Is God our God only on this planet? Or is God a god for every system where there’s civilization and intelligent life, and even developing life?” (Emphasis added.)

One of my favorite Congressmen, Tim Burchett, who is himself both a Christ-follower and also one of the most active drivers towards a true ‘disclosure’ of what the government has been hiding about all this stuff…

Burchett responded simply and eloquently to some of the framing of Spielberg’s comments.

Those headlines are actually a bit misleading — that’s not really what Spielberg said.

But that’s exactly what Scripture says; Burchett nailed it.

It’s a great big universe that God has made, and the Bible itself says quite a lot about some very odd creatures he put inside it that operate outside the dimensionality that you and I currently reside in.

It’s just… we tend to take our cues on those things from culture to begin with, rather the the BIBLE itself.  (Shame on us.)

Spielberg also connected the idea that the movie would cause people to ask questions… with the idea that ‘Disclosure Day’ is more fact than fiction.

Now that piques my interest!  What are they showing us in this movie about the reality that is still being hidden from us?

Or what are they showing us in advance about the DECEPTION that is playing out?

He was quoted a few days earlier in an Associated Press interview admitting that he had changed his own view on UAP’s and UFO’s.

According to Spielberg, the circumstantial evidence has all added up to something far beyond a reasonable doubt.

And the recent 180 degree turn by the Pentagon following President Trump’s push to release UFO files actually added fuel to the fire for the longtime movie director.

That situation and Spielberg’s own research into what was being released developed into this movie, which Spielberg insists isn’t speculative like his prior alien movies…

But is far more representative of reality, as reported last week following his interview with the Associated Press:

Spielberg’s latest, like some of his earliest and most beloved films, again concerns what might fall from above. “Disclosure Day,” which Universal Pictures releases June 11, returns Hollywood’s preeminent big-screen craftsman to one of his most abiding questions: Are we alone?

It’s a distant answer to the final notes of “Close Encounters.” But while Spielberg grants his 1977 film was “speculative,” “Disclosure Day,” he insists, is the real deal.

“It’s my first film that will be considered science fiction that I do not consider to be science fiction,” Spielberg said in a recent interview. “It’s much more reflective of the world as it is evolving and discoveries that are being made as we speak.”

“I’ve been a believer since I made ‘Close Encounters’ 50 years ago,” Spielberg says. “But I would always say: Until I’ve seen a UAP or a UFO with my own eyes, I’m not going to categorically state that life from out there has come here.

“But I’ve changed that,” he adds. “I’m now willing to change my mind because of the circumstantial evidence which is overwhelming.”

Spielberg, having long followed reports of alleged alien encounters, was inspired by the 2023 House Subcommittee on National Security hearing on UAPs: Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena. Among the witnesses was whistleblower and former Air Force intelligence officer David Grusch, who testified that the government concealed a program investigating UAPs.

The Pentagon then denied it. Yet in April, President Donald Trump said the Pentagon is preparing to release some “very interesting” UFO files.

Those 2023 testimonies and others so fueled Spielberg that he produced a 50-page treatment on what would become “Disclosure Day.” (Emphasis added.)

The fact that Spielberg’s own personal deep-dive into the current UAP information being released by the government formed the starting point for this movie has me biting at the bit to see it.

Though I don’t expect my faith in God to be shaken for one moment — if that’s even what the director was trying to imply.

Besides the obvious excitement surrounding what is likely to be a classic Spielberg nail bitter…

Is it really a bad thing if people question what they believe?

Anything that causes you to ultimately doubt the Biblical truth about God is bad, and that’s putting it lightly.

But Scripture itself says that the fire of testing is what ‘proves’ our faith — not just in the sense of a checkup, to see if it’s real… but in a PURIFYING sense; to MAKE it real!

Can God use a movie surmising the release of secrets that space aliens are among us… to ‘prove’ the faith of those who trust in Him?

I guess how you answer that question determines how you approach this movie, particularly if you’re a Christian.

There’s no doubt that evil forces are attempting to use deceptive means to increasingly lead people, and entire nations for that matter, astray.

Evil wants to hide the truth.  That’s it’s most effective tactic.

We’re living through that time foretold in Scripture, and it definitely plays out on the ‘big screens’ of Hollywood along with every other form of entertainment we take in.

If you’re not on guard, and if you’re brain isn’t engaged, you’re a low-hanging target of convenience for the enemy.

And it won’t take a Spielberg movie to ‘mess up’ someone who watches ANYTHING that comes out of Hollywood without the realization that they are trying hard to ‘mess up’ your mind.

As for me… I’ll have the house smelling like buttery popcorn as soon as it’s available streaming.

And I can promise you — my faith will remain fully intact.

And I hope yours does, too.
